Angela Gossow is a great vocalist and frontman, Im going to witness Arch Enemy play 14.12!! Can't wait!! biggrin.gif

Posted by: rokchik Dec 9 2007, 11:57 PM

I'm going to have to say no I didn't like it....but I'm still pretty much on the fence with that type of vocals. Props to her though as it's a tough thing to do.

Posted by: steve25 Dec 10 2007, 12:25 AM

I love Arch Enemy, top class band. At first i didn't like her vocals, but i've grown to like it

Posted by: Unleash-The-Shred Dec 10 2007, 12:26 AM

I love it, Arch Enemy owns.

Posted by: ZakkWylde Dec 10 2007, 12:38 AM

I just came back from an Arch Enemy gig and Angela was brilliant!
Make sure to check out my Review^^

I love Angela Gossow so much, ive seen AE Live twice and she never fails to outperform herself, Amazing vocalists and Lyricist smile.gif

Sorry I know I`ve said this a thousand times I just dont like this type of vocal, I love the backing the music is always so good, I think it ruins it, only my opinion smile.gif I know sooo many love it wink.gif , fair play to her tho, and I agree with Toni, she looks a great frontwoman smile.gif

Posted by: FretDancer69 Dec 10 2007, 01:01 AM

she's pretty and everything tongue.gif but i dont like her vocals those vocals at all

Posted by: Vinicitur Dec 10 2007, 09:22 AM

A lot of people are suprised when they realize she's a woman. I was too at first. But the important thing for me is can she do the job. She sure can. So at the end of the day the fact she's a woman is irrelevant to me.

Well until I see one of their videos. She's easier on the eyes than a hairy sweaty guy. laugh.gif

As for the harsh vocal style, it took me a long time to get used to it also. Albums like Carcass' Heartwork, Believer's Dimensions and Anacrusis' Suffering Hour were the beginning for me in '93. You just have to find a harsher vocal style than you are used to, and go slowly. Maybe a combination of harsh and clean vocals might be a good way to start. Something like amorphis or Opeth (Yes another Opeth recommendation tongue.gif )

Posted by: The Uncreator Dec 10 2007, 11:50 AM

Dont worry, there is never enough Opeth recommendations.

Posted by: David.C.Bond Dec 10 2007, 11:55 AM

Shes not a bad singer, or frontwoman.
I do think they could have got someone with a more articulate growl and scream than her though, can't help but feel the decision may have been slightly influenced by the novelty factor of having a female who growls.

Posted by: The Uncreator Dec 10 2007, 12:11 PM

i Always thought her Growl was top of the line, plus, The Lyrics she writes from Arch Enemy are excellent!

Posted by: Hemlok Dec 10 2007, 12:38 PM

She puts so many male death metal/(i dont know what genre arch enemy is) vocalists to shame. I really like Arch Enemy. Good stuff, and great to see a female making it in this kind of music.

Edit: I listened to an Arch Enemy song followed by a Carcass song the other day and thought, wow this guy sounds weak compared to Angela. And then i heard the solo and started thinking, what could Muris do here.... and i just went off day dreaming and took me a while to get back to reality but... ahhh

Ok I should be elsewhere right now.

Edit 2:

P.S you know I have been drinking when I rant... laugh.gif must be pretty obvious, I personally think I have been doing good, cut back on drinking for a while.

It's an artform... ahhh, okay don't believe me, I really cannot remember how I got into this music, I used to hate it. rolleyes.gif

Michael Amott, one of the guitarists for Arch Enemy, Used to be be the lead guitarist for Carcass in the mid-90's smile.gif

She's great, even though I dont really like Arch Enemy anymore.

Posted by: VinceG Dec 10 2007, 05:02 PM

There boring. No offense to the fans. John Tardy beats everyone in the most possessed, satanic, screams of torture when it comes to death metal vocalist's.

I personally dont agree with this at all, I can ALWAYS tell the difference between a male metal and a female metal vocalist - without fail, Angela's distorted vocal is always thinner on the air than any male growler you care to mention, the only thing its really got going for it is that it sounds different, but she has no ability to do any other vocal style either and considering metal is all about variety - that sucks.

She's always been Arch Enemy's gimmick.

So basically every singer who does only one style of vocals suck?

I dont follow you unsure.gif

Your saying the all the bands you listen to that only do one vocal style, you think there singer sucks?

Posted by: Owen Dec 10 2007, 11:48 PM

Metal Screaming should have a varied pitch at least, she screams monotonously through the entirety of the album, its just a technique that she happens to have mastered.

Theres been no improvement in her abilities since earlier albums, the only thing that has improve about Arch Enemy is the guitar work, to me that stands as lazy and yes, I do find that when metal bands have a singer that just does the one thing that it ends up being rather boring, especially when there is no variation in pitch at all.

Posted by: The Uncreator Dec 11 2007, 12:36 AM

Ok, i though you were saying since she could not do Growls AND Clean vocals, she sucked, ok, i see your side of the story now, Although do hear many changes in pitch, this is one topic me and you will always disagree on laugh.gif

At least we agree this is the best high scream in metal laugh.gif

Just listened to that last link Uncreator and I gotta say, after all the micky taking that drummers get, the drumming on that is bloomin amazing, they gotta be totally dead after one song laugh.gif
Now if my next door neighbour could drum like that I really wouldnt be as upset about him ruining my Sunday afternoon with his practice session laugh.gif

Posted by: The Uncreator Dec 11 2007, 12:43 AM

Yeah, TBDM Have an insane new drummer wink.gif

Posted by: Smells Dec 11 2007, 12:47 AM

totally blown away by the drumming in that track m8, one of the few occasions I sat through a track like that in its entirety very cool cool.gif

That is such a clear scream, it gets the emotion and the words across, thats why I like it so much.

My favourite female screamer is :

Awesome.

Posted by: The Uncreator Dec 11 2007, 09:04 PM

Very cool indeed smile.gif

Posted by: Toni Suominen Dec 11 2007, 09:16 PM

I do love metal bands with different styles of singing, for example Opeth (Åkerfeldt is just amazing) but I still do like Angela's singing aswell, although it isn't so versatile

Posted by: The Uncreator Dec 11 2007, 09:21 PM

Well love Gossow alot, one of my top 5 singers. BUT, Comparing anything to Akerfeldt is like comparing Gold to Dirt almost, there are very few musicians who match Akerfeldts ability to sing growls and clean vocals, and be one of the best guitarists smile.gif

Yes, im an Opeth fanboy, so is Owen laugh.gif
