Ok, as you might have noticed I've started to use you guys as a living lexicon (Just take it as a compliment) .
The thing now is that I'm going to get some new headphones just for use when I'm at school, out walking etc. I don't want anything where the bass is really loud and all that stuff that youngsters look for these days, I want something that isolates outside noises well and have a good overall sound quality so I can get the details in the music I'm listening to and all that. Please tell me what you think

Get some good AKG headphones, the best there is

I personally like AKG, but maybe not for outdoor walking etc. Look at the KOSS Porta Pro. They have been the king of headphones for about 30 years. Really good and cheap headphones.

When I go for a walk or listen to my mp3 on a bus etc. I use Sennheiser CX300. Awesome sound, good bass for in-ear headphones, plus they provide some isolation (not total isolation though).

If you are looking for bigger headphones I use AKG 514 at home when it's late at night and I'm practicing. 514s are semi-open, so not good for isolation. 512s would be better. There are many other AKG models out there check them out, but they are BIG to wear on street.

Just to clarify , you seek for headphones not small earpieces ? Regarding hi-fi headphones I use sennheiser HD 465 and I pretty pleased with them!

i use Sony Studio Pros.. they are awsome, great sound quality and excellent ability to cancel out noise, super long cord too so you never have to be short.

I think Sennheiser have some cool headphones for the use you want.

I recently checked out these earphones. I think earphones are definitely the way to go if you use them when being mobile, and they shut off all external noise. But be careful, they do isolate the sound, which can be dangerous sometimes. And they have a decent sound quality as well, not mainstream anyway.

I just want to add into the whole that I don't want earphones that you put into your ears as I have heard much about them having a greater chance for hurting them than headphones

I recommend Sennheiser HD 202 headphones. Cheap, but the sound clarity is fantastic. Its what we use in our college radio, and trust me all music sounds good in these headphones. We have at least 20 different genres ranging from hip hop, indie rock, noise/experimental, to the blackest most brutal of all metal, and all these musics fairly held by this headphones.

Its great for what it is, don't let the price fool ya, because this headphone is one bang for the buck. I believe its going for $20 retail nowadays.

Personally, I would go for HD280 or an HD212. I've always wanted an HD280. A little too big even for DJ headphones but the high clarity, music perfection, range, and isolation (although not in a noise canceling way) are all present in these bad boys.

Been looking for the same range of headphones myself for about a year ago and tried out some different headphones in the 50-100 $ area (or more presise the 300-500 NOK area). It all boiled down to the AKG k-416 and PioneerSE-MJ3 and I own both now, Sennheiser also had some really nice headphones in this area but they didnt fit my head to well and hang a little loose. Anyway, I would say both of them (AKG and Pioneer) is a good choice. The AKG was cheaper and is slighly smaller, more compact and portable, while the Pioneer covers more of your ear better and have more powerful speakers. A drawback for the Pioneers however is that they tend to sit a little loose on the head so you may lose some bass and overall volum, and lose them while running, bowing down etc. I found out a way to prevent this actually was to have them on the "wrong" way (L to right ear and R to left ear), they're still a little loose but it has a better contact with the ear. Ok, this sounded wierd, but try them out first if possible and you will probably understand my point.

Anyway: Both are good and solid, the AKG is cheaper, more practical, and sits better to your ear. Pioneer has a bit clearer sound, more powerful bassrespons and is more like fullcovering headphones. Good luck with you choice!

Those look nice I've never tried them so let us know what you think! AKG phones rock, no doubt. Personally, I just got a pair of the Shure SRH 840 headphones and I'm really impressed with them. Even at low volumes they are shockingly close to my full mixing speakers with sub. The bass response is really impressive without being muddy and mids/highs are clear. I don't like to turn them up to high as they actually start causing pain at high volume as they transmit a LOT of energy to the ear. So be careful with any pro phones.
