Seymour Duncan is releasing a Jason Becker "Perpetual Burn" pickup!

I gotta say I would have bought one if I hand't already gotten the Alternative 8 duncan, which then sold with the B.C RIch Gunslinger These pickups sound killer IMHO and use an ALNICO 5 Bar which keeps it from sounding compressed/crushed. Great pickup

I love Jason Becker a LOT, but personally I question the need for this pickup. What would they have been using back in the day - a JB in the bridge? In fact, Jason would have been using Carvin stock pickups for a large part of his career.

So... if you buy a "Seymour Duncan Jason Becker" humbucker, where does that leave you?

I just ordered the Perpetual Burn. I've been debating pickups for months and finally pulled the trigger. I'm going to put it in my Hamer Californian. I'll post a REC video or something when I get it.

If I remember that Californian, it had a great neck and a pickup that could really use an upgrade so good call on the Becker!!

I completely missed this. Not sure what to make of it. I have got the same pick ups in my 7 string as Petrucci had at one point, but my 6 string could use some new pick ups, but I know nothing of pick ups.

The Perpetual Burn pickup came in the mail today. It is a major tone upgrade from what I had in my guitar (Korean Hamer). Basically swapping out a Super Distortion Duncan clone. Not a bad pickup but not totally my thing.

My first impressions: The pickup is bright and well balanced. Kind of organic in tone… it brings out the tone of the wood well. Articulate and responsive to picking attack and great for fast runs. I think it will get compared to the Duncan JB but I find this to have a very different voice. I have a JB in my Les Paul and was doing a A/B test. The JB is slightly hotter, chunkier with palm muting, and more responsive with pinch harmonics. Its bright too but I find the Becker pickup more pleasant in tone. I usually roll the tone knob to about 8 with the JB to cut some of the harsh treble. The Becker is medium output... I would classify it more of EVH heavy sound. Pretty much how it has been marketed and I think that is accurate. Definetley has an 80's metal/shred vibe to it.



Yeah, the neck is nice and fast. The neck is a bit chunky for a shredder guitar but it plays solid and feels comfortable for me. The angle cut 27 frets is what i like best about it.

The alnico 5 is a great choice for pick articulation. You are spot on IMHO in your comments on the JB. The JB is a legend of course and great at what it does, however, it favors brute force over articulation IMHO making it ideal for Drop D (ala Lamb of God) but not quite precise as I like for fast picking. That's what I love about alnico mags, you can push them hard without them turning to mush, and when voiced properly they are a thing of beauty

It's pattened after one of the test pickups duncan had sent Jason Becker during their development process. He came down with ALS and couldn't finish the testing until Michael Lee Firkins came over and helped on playing. They selected one of the prototypes and the BURN is based on that. An alnico 5 Bar magnet with 12k DC resistance. So the specs are like a "vintage" pickup, but it's voice more aggressively via the wind. Nice pup!

*NOTE: EACH BURN IS HAND BUILT!!!!
These are basically "Boutique" / "Custom Shop" hand made pickups that are being produced in a limited run in honor of Jason. If you want a boutique pickup without paying 200 bux each, this is a FINE choice.

Congrats on Your new purchase. JB is one of my favourites of all time so if You say it's close I think I might like one as well
