I also recommend a light touch as a great way to train technique and make your fretting hand movements more efficient. For vibrato and bending, however, nothing replaceses good, old fashioned pressure. When you say you perform vibrato like a cellist, does that mean you use an unnacompanied finger ? I do a variation on that which I call classical vibrato, where I use my other fingers to sit on the string and push up next to the finger that is fretting the note, thus providing more strength. The vibrato motion itself comes all the way back from the elbow, through the forearm and the wrist. For other types of vibrato, the regular 'up, down' and the more exotic 'circular' vibrato like Steve Vai does.. the hand angle changes but the principle is pretty much the same: The finger is the contact point with the string, a contact point that needs to remain strong.. but the actual vibrato motion itself is performed by rotating the wrist and keeping a strong, united line from the forearm through the hand. I hope that makes sense ? I learned to vibrato in a horizontal fashion rather than a vertical one(Fun Fact: I taught myself a little bit of Violin. I haven't played in a couple years, and I would love too, but i am concentrating on guitar too much). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ihh7Stn7HZk...feature=related Check out the way Elena is (vibratoing?) in the beginning. -------------------- All the elders have fallen down...

Yeah, that's the image I have in my head of violin vibrato. If you're able to make it effective on guitar then I'm impressed as I usually encourage people to avoid performing vibrato with just the finger on its own |
