Economy Picking N Alternating Picking Options

so after reading all the post,although i read a good article at ultimateguitar.com that says that the way to fast speed is using economy picking,but after what kris says,can i conclude that economy picking is faster than alternating picking but it has less control n poorer tone than doing alternating picking,unless we inspired to be the next david angelo,who can pick at 360 bpm,we all should stick to alternate picking am i right? THE TEACHING MOTTO AT GMC IS STICK TO ALTERNATE PICKING REGARDLESS OF WAT RIGHT?

I'm not the shred expert around here but both Pavel and Kris agree that alternate picking is the way to go. In another thread somewhere I think Kris said that he used to do Economy picking and was even a little faster than he is now, but is much happier with his tone and control now. I think he even posted an audio fragment of his old style. Sorry I can't remember what the thread was about ... FWIW, Rusty Cooley also agrees

I'm working on speed now and I'm definitely sticking to strict alternate picking.

I say practice both if you have the time and the interest. Make them both 2nd nature and you will use the most appropriate technique at the appropriate time without really thinking about it. If you don't have the time or the interest to get comfortable with both, or would rather just nail one at time....alt picking is the way to go IMHO.

As i mentioned in previous topics - in order to be a complete guitarist you must master all techniques. One is usefull in one situation, another technique is more suitable in another situation. You never know what kind of notes you'll be playing so the motto of this site is: "Master all techniques! They are all out there, you are the one that will have to sit down and work hard on it!"

Hey Pavel - sorry for misquoting you - I thought you had said you prefered AP over EP somewhere. But your point is good, the more techniques you learn the more weapons you have!
