Around March-April of this year I decided to pursue creating music for film and tv. Closing out the year, I've been accepted into several great music libraries, had a number of minor sales and then had two tracks included in a high end catalog for trailer music use. Following that I was invited to write and record an entire album of trailer/soundtrack cinematic music for another library. As it turns out, I ended up sharing the album space with another couple of guys but still had all 16 of my tracks on it. It was published in the last couple of weeks.

I'm proud of my accomplishments this year and look forward to achieving even more next year.

So share your stories so we can celebrate your successes with you! smile.gif

Congrats Rob smile.gif .

Mine are more limited:

a/ Studio still financially viable and we get a lot of return business from happy clients. So we must be doing something right smile.gif. We're also official beta-testers for several pro hardware and software audio developers.

b/ An old student of ours was nominated for an industry award.

Downsides:

1/ One of our hardware EQs died on us and we had to hire in a replacement in the short term. That made a bit of a mess of our working capital plan so we've had to re-think this years equipment budget. It has however meant that we've looked at other alternative hardware EQs.

2/ My wife still spends money faster than I can earn it.

Thanks MickeM and Tony.

Tony, keeping the doors open on a business in Europe at the moment is no small feat. smile.gif

Keeping the doors open anywhere these days is practically a Miracle! So Well Done! Keep fighting the good fight. In the age of cheap gear, people tend to forget that beyond the gear is the experience and the ears of the engineer. That's what the hourly rate is for. Anyone can get gear, very few can can record/mix at a pro level.

I've embraced Music for Film this past year as well and did my first work on a score for a Brazilian film. I"ll post some as soon as it's released. It got picked up for distribution which was great news. I look forward to doing more music for film/tv etc. this year. It's just amazing fun. I actually enjoy it more than playing in a band at the moment. Perhaps because it's still so new.

I embraced software instruments this year in a big way including the Native Instruments stuff as well software modeling for a host of duties. You can't replace hardware for some things, just can't. But I keep finding more and more good uses for software version of some things I used to do in hardware.

Most important, this was my first year at GMC as an instructor. I couldn't be happier here and look forward to 2011.

Happy New Year Guys!
Todd

Congrats! Thats some feat.

I haven't had much success story to share but I have improved my skills a lot. 2 days back, I received my first guitar gift (this is probably one great achievement as of now without having to spend much but then getting an awesome pro guitar). I hope I can land on creating music and start earning. smile.gif

That's some great stories you've shared guys.. it's always an eye opener and an honour to be in the company of you all.

I would have to say joining GMC has been the biggest and proudest achievement this year.. I went from knowing nothing about making videos or knowing how to navigate the site etc to being welcomed by all the GMCers here and sharing thoughts and stories with people who live hundreds or thousands of miles across the world. This is up there in a small list of the greatest things that have ever happened to me.

So thank you guys. smile.gif
