Hi There
And welcome to GMC, if speed is important to you, then it is important. The way I developed my speed was playing slow and fast at the same time. You mentioned a few guitarists, with different tecniques, so you should first identify what the problem is and work on that. Satriani for instance has incredible legato fast licks, but since most of it is legato the right had tecnique is relatively easy when compared to Yngwie or Vinnie Moore. If you are having a problem playing satriani, you need to practice legato and left hand tecnique, I did this first before moving on to alternate picking (Malmsteen style) Then work on your right hand, find out what is the speed that you can play on one string, check out Muris Varajic Lesson called one string work out. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...ionian-workout/ I find this lesson really helpful because it helps you identify how fast you can play on a single string which is easier. After that check lessons with Alternate picking solos, there are quite a few here, amongst the craziest is Muris Varajic Extreme Neo-Classical https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...me-neo-classic/ I believe Yngwie himself couldn't play this at that speed, but practice with the slower backing tracks and increase your speed slowly. Another trick useful to get faster is in this Forum Topic https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...showtopic=18308 I developed a lesson based on this concept https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...veloping-speed/ So you have come to the right place, they key is practice, but with the lessons here you should have plenty of material to work on Good Luck |

No problem we are glad to help a fellow player
As for speed, it comes in time and with practice. Key word is practice, there isn't really any magic wand or magic trick that high speed exercises are executed. If you practice a lot, you will play fast - that's about it. On top of that, this doesn't mean that you should practice anything to acquire high speeds. Proper approach with the metronome is needed. Follow advices that Marcus, Kris and Muris gave on speedpicking, and you should be OK. Always start slow, whole or half notes @60bpm, and advance up the tempo gradually. Work on as many combinations of AP string transfers, do arpeggios with scales in parallel, and everything else that you can think of. Take your time and build slowly. Key with speed is precision. If you stay precise from whole note @60bpm, and stay that way all the way up, you can push more and more speed. As soon as you start to feel that it sounds sloppy, take a break from that exercise and continue in a few days. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
