Scalloped Frets, purpose?

Alright, I'm an aspiring Neoclassical shred metalist, and when I made the suggestion in my "Customize my Strat" thread, scalloped frets were mentions as a must for neoclassical playing.

I'm curious as to the purpose of scalloped frets in reference to what they do for the guitarist

Thanks!
-Matt

they give you better grip for the notes. helps with vibrato, bending, etc.

That's right!

Some people have reported that they find it more difficult to play chords though. So make sure you try a scalloped neck before you do it on your own wink.gif

So would you suggest a full neck scallop or just, say, frets 12 to 21?

Also I hear a lot about players scalloping their own necks. How does one go about doing that? A good bit of sophisticated equipment? ohmy.gif

Thanks!

theres no fret drag.. i hate when my fingers drag along the fretboard while bending.. or sometimes my nails will hit the fretboard.. n that always sucks
