Ok guys check out 3:17 in this video:
His index finger never moves, what exactly is going on here? Whatever this technique is, it's huge in Dimes playing and I cannot seem to replicate it... Does anyone know what's going on here? Just a bunch of hammer ons and pull offs maybe? |

I think its legato but he keeps his index finger anchored as much as possible so he can play faster.

I think its legato but he keeps his index finger anchored as much as possible so he can play faster. Yup, he does the same thing on the solo of Walk.. Alot of guitarists use this "Anchor" technique to make some licks easier, guys like Zakk Wylde, Slash, the guitarists from Lynyrd Skynard use it alot on that monster jam of Freebird. All you do is just anchor you'r index finger, and when you move to a lower string, just lift you'r finger a bit from the higher strings so it mutes them. -------------------- |

Not refering to the technique, but that video is killer.
So much energy on the stage. It's straight "in your face" -------------------- "They play it extremely fast, it doesn't make any sense, but it's Slayer so it makes a lot of sense" :)

That's propably the most awesome physical live performance ever captured on tape
The anchor Index finger is a standard and easy to play, I struggle with his extremely wide stretched legato runs... The energy they had was enormous! Great performance. That legato technique is pretty cool, he does stiffens up his index finger a lot.

Anyone have a example tab that I can learn this? When I anchor my index and do hammer ons and pull offs it sounds really static and boring....

Great show, I haven't watched that vid in a while. It's very hard to replicate Dime's sound by carefully picking apart his playing, the easiest way to get some of the Dime feel is to simply go for it and jam, don't think too much, just have fun.
