So I was struggling with some decisions, wether to stay in town to study/go away....things like that.

Due to financial reasons, which might not seem huge to you(I will be paying LOADS of money to study extra years, I have chosen to spend my second college year in town. Then the third has minors which I will try to do abroad, just like I will try to do my masters degree in another country.

Onto the idea..... I have always been attracted to water, and I don't just "like" water, I love it. In a way that it gives me peace.... a sense of freedom.... all that. All my life I've wanted a boat to (Ill use the word drive for well, driving the boat) drive around... wherever. Last time on holiday I was on a boat... a few years younger I was and the sea was somewhat rough (it was a fishers boat trip) and I stood on the very front edge, much like youd see in the Titanic. Watching the big waves roll in --- going up -- then down, the salt water splashing in my face One of the best moments of my life.

And everytime since, and even before that moment, whenever I came past a river with boats, or saw a boat on a deck of a car on the highway... I started to daydream, what would it be to be free on the waters? To have a boat, decide to go out into the (not so open) open waters of Holland, and perhaps beyond! Ive looked into boating (to drive a boat) licenses. Not what I expected, I expected hands on/practical practise like you would have with obtaining a car license. But no: a bunch of rules to study, take a multiple choice test, pass, and you can get your license for what... 21 euros!

So thats my short time goal for this summer vacation, after exams have ended in 2 weeks time. Study my ass off and get that license! When I get that license Ill be allowed to rent boats and just...... get on the water! How crazy is that?!! Ive looked into renting boats for a week...its payable! I wanted to get a job anyway! And with the idea of me and 2/3 friends using the boat to drive around Holland, training parkour in every town with an active community... EASILY doable due to the prices being split. How much of an adventure would that be!

And on a longer term...... between now and 1.5 year, I must figure out wether Im gonna stay home with my parents, or already move out. Staying home would help me in a BIG time financially...... to get what I really want. My own boat. And Im not talking mini speedboat or huge yacht, Im talking something like this:

Insane right?! Secondhand for something like that... youd have to pay somewhere around 7.000 Euros, secondhand, depending what shape its in. I am expecting to need 10.000 euros to get a first boat. I know this is ALOT of money, but its doable, a friend of mine earned 10.000 in about 2.5 months to pay for his college fee. I will be needing more time since im not gonna work THAT hard ( I think). But within 2 / 1.5 years.... I want it! Ill be 20/21 having my own boat!

But now... its bed time (03:27) waking up, and studying for statistics/psychology exams and practise for my blues bands demo recording on sunday. After that, Im getting that license!!!

Oh, and a job!

Wow! Very nice man! My dad used to work for a boat manufacturer years ago (I was about 14-15 years old) and he took me along at the boat shows when he and his team took the products to display them in the harbor. I used to drive a little 4 person boat with a 5.5 HP engine in the bay all day long biggrin.gif it was SO MUCH FUN! Imagine 10 days of doing this each summer till I turned 19 and didn't feel like hanging with them guys any longer.

Mate, if this is what your heart aches for, then why not?

you have my blessing biggrin.gif

Old saying, two greatest times one ever has with a boat. The day he buys it, and the day he sells it. Been there.

Pretty expensive, not just for the boat, but everything else. Costs a lot to keep them going, store them, and run them (gas for one thing, use a lot of gas). They have a lot of maintenance, and it is expensive. Now I am talking about the type of boat that I believe you are thinking of.

I have what is called a Porta- Boat. Have had it for 8 years. Love it, good for inland lakes, to get out on the water. Me and 4 dogs fit nicely in it. You can beach it anywhere, it is unsinkable. Goes about 15mph with a 6hp motor. Folds up like a big surf board and rides on top of the car or truck, Takes about 20 minutes to put together.

Curiously enough, on their page they have a video of fire rescue in the Netherlands using these.

Would like a nice big boat, but you really need a lot of money to make it worth doing, otherwise it is just a major pain in the ass to tell you the truth.

There's only one, real (almost) undisputed piece of wisdom in this life which is that you've just gotta follow your heart.

'It's better to regret something you did instead of something you didn't do'.. I think I got that one from Cosmin ! biggrin.gif

I also like the idea of having a boat and crusing about in it. It won't be cheap or easy like Fkalich said.. mooring fees, taking it out of the water for anti-fouling and stuff like that.. but nothing in life worth doing is easy, especially if it's what you really want to be doing.

People do much more difficult things than that everyday for something that they hate, so I'm sure you can do it for something you love. wink.gif

Thats some cool responses guys! Fkalich, I've been thinking about all the extra costs, taxes as well. Would be easier if I had some land where I could just store it! Im also thinking about when I get the money, getting one for 2/3000 euros that needs some fixing. To work on it myself and do some driving about!
