Ok, heres an update on rebuilding my gax70. So far its completely disassembled and mostly sanded. I'm going to paint it black with a diagonal white stripe, get some new pickups with gold covers, get all gold plates, gold knobs, tuners, bridge, tailpiece, all the stuff I can. what site would you recommend buying these parts on, (on a fairly tight budget) and its ok if this guitar is low quality. In december I am going to get a kit build either lp or strat, and really make it nice. So consider this a practice, although I still am going to want to play it.

Actually on second thought, Ill just repaint it, and replace the broken part only, keeping the pickups. If the paint looks good Ill go all out on a kit when I can.

I enjoy working on my guitars too, I get the parts from WD or stew mac, The guitar on my Hard Rock Shred Solo lesson was built from Warmoth body and Neck, and I did all the painting and finish work. If you haven't done so already check out this website www.reranch.com, they have tutorials on how to refinish guitars with spray cans and get professional looking results

thanks jose, and how much cash did you put into the warmoth? It looks and sounds great!

Also how long did you let the laquer set in?

Well, the truth is that this guitar came out expensive, because My brother and I wanted to make a super strat, the body ys chambered and has a quilt maple top, that by itself costed $300, and the neck is flame maple with a pau ferro fretboard, with stainless steel frets. Another $300, warmoth is expensive but has a lot too choose from. I don't know if I'd buy from them again. The pickups are DiMarzios each was $70 bucks, I wired the guitar so that any of the pickups could be used as either series or paralell, that was a few more dollars for push pull pot and additional switch. The tone control is not POT but an arrangement of capacitors made by stellartone, then the roller nut, wilkinson tremolo and golden hardware, the guitar came out for about $800-$900 dolars. A little expensive, but the truth is you could make a great quality guitar for under $500 or even $400 if you shop around.

I let the lacquer set for a month, maybe that was too long but I wanted to make sure that it buffed out nicely, I used Lawrence Mcfadden Lacquer from stew mac, and it dries pretty quick, they claim 7 days is enough, I would say give it two or 3 weeks to make sure
