Hey thanks for digging that up Cos, it got pretty in depth down at the bottom but I love what Cootie Williams had to say when asked to define swing. tongue.gif When jazz performer Cootie Williams was asked to define it, he joked: "Define it? I'd rather tackle Einstein's theory!"
Tommy Dorsey's explanation was pretty good too. "Swing is sweet and hot at the same time and broad enough in its creative conception to meet, every challenge tomorrow may present."

Swing is definitely a thing which you must feel rather than try to explain biggrin.gif glad that the greats feel the same tongue.gif

Yeah I still don't really know how to explain those terms ! huh.gif I usually call any mid tempo 6/8 rhythm a shuffle.. but that's about it. Swing ? I have no idea !! tongue.gif

I think it's happening each time you manage to play like an african-american man, even if you are caucasian smile.gif I have the utmost respect for african american artists!

Very interesting, thanks for this piece of history mate smile.gif I never looked it that way, I always thought swing is the same as shuffle, shuffled rhythm basically, but this broadens up my views. Cool smile.gif
