Hey guys!, so if you take a look at that youtube video, i would LOVE to play that song but at 1:57 and at 3:43 there are things beyond my ability.

My question is, should i just take those parts, learn them slowly, and every day slowly raise the metronome until i have it to speed?

And what happens if i hit a metronome speed which i feel like i cant pass no matter how long i stay at that speed?

Take a part of a song and learning it slow is a great practice in it self. I never do that because I just try and rush things (could be why I play beginner stuff laugh.gif ). But around 2 weeks ago I did a quick video of my play and sent it in to an instructor to see where I am and what I should improve on. And well I had to improve on some rather basic playing techniques such as legato and AP. I try and set aside 20 minutes a day to do the AP exercise after these past 2 weeks I feel more comfortable playing it, with that I've noticed I feel better at trying to push and gain speed. I do as your first question asks raise it a few clicks when it gets easy. I will do a run like you would lift in reps, run the pattern say 10 times at 60bpm is it clean on all of them? If it is kick it up to 65bpm and give it ago just rinse and repeat.

As for the road blocks, I jack that speed up a few clicks and just go crazy. Its far from clean but you get your fingers and brain in a sort of overdrive like "Whoa Buddy, I'm Not Use To This". Then I will slow it back down and see if it has gotten easy and cleaner.

That the best way I can put it because that's how I view it for myself.

if you think you might hit a wall, just know this, you will, we all do sooner or later
I think you are on the right track in your practicing, don't worry about speed, strive for perfection first,
somethings will come easier than others
most importantly , stick with it

Great song to learn!
Even if you get to the point you can't pass keep practicing it at a slow tempo and you will get it! It's that simple it will take some time but you WILL get it!

You found the right path. It would be a pity to avoid that beautiful song because of theses two a bit harder phrases. ! Finally, is not end of the world if it is still unattainable for you at this moment, try to analyze it, and play maybe a simple phrase instead of, record a demo, and in the meantime practice hard .smile.gif

Your approach is very good! Now, don't feel frustrated because some things are untouchable..FOR THE MOMENT wink.gif give yourself time to analyze, understand and assimilate all these. You'll find yourself playing them and you won't know when that happened smile.gif
