I'm a bit bored. and I realised that making lists is probably the best thing to do when you're bored. We already had a top 10 favourite albums list, but that was a while ago, and I also thought that we still don't have a top 50 albums list, so why not have it now? blink.gif

Anyways, here is mine, I have many albums with the same bands since some deserve to have lots of albums here, allthough I did try to spread things out a bit, I could easily have made a top 20 of only Opeth, Katatonia, Ulver and Agalloch Albums, but that would be a bit boring. Anyways, make your lists however you want (just be sure to actually make some lists!). I made mine suit my current mood today.

I actually found out that I would like to have at least 150 others on this list, but it's still quite a good summary.

1. Ulver - Nattens Madrigal
2. Katatonia - Brave Murder Day
3. Opeth - Blackwater Park
4. Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream
5. Opeth - Still Life
6. Ulver - Bergtatt
7. Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
8. Agalloch - The Mantle
9. Comus - First Utterance
10. Edge of Sanity - Crimson
11. Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain
12. Isis - Oceanic
13. Sigur Rós - ()
14. Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
15. Morbid Angel - Domination
16. Ulver - Perdition City
17. Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
18. Opeth - Morningrise
19. Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters
20. Agalloch - Of Stone, Wind And Pillor
21. Bloodbath - Unblessing the Purity
22. Ulver - Kveldssanger
23. Novembers Doom - To Welcome The Fade
24. Explosions in the Sky - How strange, Innocence
25. Pelican - The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw
26. Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
27. Anathema - Alternative 4
28. Katatonia - Last Fair Deal Gone Down
29. Katatonia - Dance of December Souls
30. Camel - The Snow Goose
31. Cult of Luna - Somewhere Along The Highway
32. Novembre - Materia
33. At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
34. Opeth - Damnation
35. Katatonia - Viva Emptiness
36. Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
37. Tool - Lateralus
38. Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
39. Katatonia - Discouraged Ones
40. Opeth - Ghost Reveries
41. Vintersorg - Till Fjälls
42. Alcest - Souvenirs d'un autre Monde
43. Isis - Sgnl>05
44. Wolves in the Throne Room - Diadem of 12 Stars
45. Opeth - Orchid
46. Entombed - Clandestine
47. Yes - Close to the Edge
48. Explosions in the SKy - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone
49. The Crown - Deathrace King
50. Jan Johansson - Jazz på Svenska

(I get quite scared when I read this list, I didn't think my taste was that stale, but I guess it is. Hmmrph..)

Dude, 50 records is nothing. Sure, it's impossible to make a perfect top 50 list, but it's easy to jsut write down 50 albums you love, and no it's not hard to remember. I thought you guys were musicians, and therefore also people who listened to music.

Great list Tony smile.gif Some amazing bands there including one of the best Jazz Fusion bands ever, for me anyways, in Weather Report. Jaco Pastorius is such an outstanding bass player. One of the greatest ever if not the greatest. I'm surprised he's not brought up more but it may be due to his style. But I thought Birdland was a song on the "Heavy Weather" album? I didn't realize they had an album by the same name.

You're 100% right there Rok - oops - comes from doing the list without looking at the lps smile.gif . There was a live bootleg called Birdland - but not great recording quality as I recall so Heavy Weather gets my vote and is the one I meant biggrin.gif .

BTW - Pastorius's 'Portrait of Tracy' (on the lp 'Jaco Pastorius') is a beautiful track and maybe a must for anyone who wants to learn how to use harmonics in their playing smile.gif. Apart from Pastorius, Wayne Shorter was also blindingly good on the Heavy Weather lp imo.

Cheers,
Tony

You had me all excited there for a minute when I thought they had another album I didn't know about smile.gif

A friend turned me on to Weather Report a few years ago. I think they are fantastic. I don't listen to a lot of Jazz or Jazz fusion but there is just something about those guys. And yes Shorter was great on the Heavy Weather LP. I think that's my favorite by them actually. Shorter is just a great Sax player and I really enjoy some of his stuff with Miles Davis as well. Also didn't he do something with Steely Dan?

Yes Shorter sessioned on Steely Dan's Aja Rok.

Also if you get the chance and haven't come across them then check out some of his solo lp's like Atlantis, High Life and Alegria. All great stuff smile.gif .

BTW - it's Shorter on soprano sax on Davis's B*****s Brew lp as well biggrin.gif; great example of modal playing imo.

50 huh.gif man this is hard cause usually the only cd's I buy are greastest hits albums so I dont know the what the original album is.

But anyway well let see I've had alot of albums but I went through a lame phase IMO of Billy Talent and Sum41 typpe bands which now sound terrible to me and now just last year I really got deep into Classic rock. But here goes.

1.AeroSmith - Gold Disk 1&2 (greatest hits album)
2.Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
3.Led Zeppelin - Mothership Disk 1&2
4.Creedance Clearwater Revival (another greatest hits)
5.Boston - Boston
6.Jimmy Hendirx - The Hendrix Exeperience
7.Van Halen - Van Halen (this should be # 2 or 3)
8.GNR - Use Your Illusion II
9.The Who - Ultimate Collection
10.Eric Clapton - The Cream Of Clapton
11.Journey - Greatest hits
12.Iron Maiden - Peace Of Mind
13.GNR - Apetite for Destruction
14.GNR - Use Your Illusion I

Wow I cant think of any others at the moment Oh yeah and I have a pile of old LP Vinels and a Turn-Table at home but I havent had time to listen to the albums so im sure il have alot more later. But like I say I've only gotten into Classic's and my Cash flow isnt that good so yeah sorry for the short list.

Oh cool Tony I had not realized Shorter played on that album... just didn't put the two together for some reason and I'll certainly check out the solo stuff. Thanks for the suggestions smile.gif

And Gus you are right we do have similar tastes in music, I always knew you were a cool guy wink.gif tongue.gif smile.gif The Cranberries, Lenny Kravitz, Queen, Dire Staits and many more on your list are so amazing. I could probably easily do another list of 50. I'm actually seeing Lenny in concert this October. Can't wait. I'm also gonna check out some of the bands on your list as I haven't heard of many of them.
