Hi! I am really glad that you have decided to join my mentoring program!
I already have an idea about your playing and what you want to learn but I want to get the main picture as well, so here is a few questions!
-What are your goals?
-What is your weakness?
-What is your strongest point?
-Your favorite guitar players

I am looking forward to start working with you!!!

Hey Alex,
glad to travel with you on this journey smile.gif
My goals are to take pleasure playing guitar, eventually to play in a band. I wish to work a lot on rhythm guitar, have a really good timing, and rhythmic ideas.
My weakness would be the lack of precision. Everything I play is often a bit messy here and there. And I need to strengthen my fingers.
My strongest point may be my right hand picking, even if it's not something marvellous...
My favourite guitar players : it's a difficult question. I love David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Joe Bonamassa, John Petrucci (on Awake and Scenes from a memory), Steve Vai, John Scofield, Greg Howe, Jeff Loomis, ...
I'm looking forward to work with you too ! smile.gif

So what I want you to do is to add this exercise into your warming up routine!
The trick is to play it at a very slow tempo using a metronome!
I will prepare another assignment for you for left hand only!
Please let me know if you have any questions or need help!

hey Alex,
I incorporated these exercises in my warm-up program. Do you want a recording of it ? Should I play it at 80 bpm or play it even slower ? The 8th notes at 50 bpm are quite difficult to follow. smile.gif

If you can record it that would be perfect!
I think 50 BPM is a good tempo!!! Or if you do 80 BPM play one note on each click!

You did a very good job! And you are almost there I think a little more practicing and it will be perfect!
Track 1
On the first lick you are ahead of the beat especially the first two notes, when triplets come in your timing is fine

Track 2,3
Same thing rushing a little

Track 4
Very well done a few notes here and there but I think this one is almost perfect!!!

I think you can set metronome at 80 BPM and play one note per click it will help you a lot! Also add this exercises into your practicing routine and use it as a warm up exercise!!! Let me know if you have any questions! I think in a few days I will give you a new assignment let me know what do you think!

Hey Alex,
thanks for the comments. I will try at 80 bpm with one note per click. Will post something there, probably on Saturday.

Hey Alex. Sorry for the "long time no see". I have a lot to do. I'm ready for a some new work smile.gif

Awesome! Let's start!!!
Here is the backing track I would like you to use to practice!
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/withguitar
It's a minor blues
The chord changes are:
Ami7 - Dmi7 - Ami7 - Emi7 - Dmi7 - Ami7
I would like you to start getting use to this track and jam over it!
To start we will use A minor blues pentatonic in 3 positions:

You can use any notes from those positions !Try to combine them together and turn them into short licks!
I would like to hear what you can come up with before I will give you examples!
Let me know if you need help or have any questions!
I will add my take tomorrow and will explain the next step! smile.gif

Here is my take!
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/grindguer
I used the same pentatonics and shapes I gave you!
Please continue my solo idea and try to be as melodic as possible! Q&A technique will work the best for this type of solo!
Record your solo after mine and leave the rest of the backing track playing so I can add another part!
Let me know if you have any questions or need help!

So I have a new challenge ready for you!
Let's work on Q&A technique a little bit more!
I would like you to play:
A minor pentatonic over A minor chord
D minor pentatonic over D minor chord
E minor pentatonic over E minor chord
Pentatonics and positions I would like you to use:
A minor

D minor

E minor (It's above the 12 fret)

Try to leave space in between phrases and use exact shapes I gave you!
Here is my take to give you ideas! Please continue it like the last time! smile.gif
