You guys heard of Eric Gales? Recently I discovered something I didnt know about him and that is that he plays a right handed guitar left handed, nothing special there right? Watch this video in full screen and play close attention to the way the guitar is strung. and the way he plays , I had to watch it a couple times to make sure I wassnt seeing things. Know of any other guitarists that play the guitar upside down?

And a little bit of little bit of Little Wing, I like the breakdown in this one, and the little suprise at the end

Awesome! I really enjoyed his music and style. I'm also impressed of his guitar technique... I don't fear a difference in his sound because of that use of the guitar... do you hear a difference?

If there's a difference in the sound it's when playing fingerstyle. Since his guitar is upside down, he won't be able to play bass lines with thumb when playing melody with other fingers, but has to do it the other way around. And since each finger (at least each of my fingers) does produce a different tone, that will affect.

To me, however, he doesn't sound as weird as he looks. But super awesome playing there, yeah. laugh.gif

No I dont hear a differance and I dont think I ever would have known had I not run across those vids, I first started listening to them back in the 90's. Here is the title track from the album Resurection by the Eric Gales Band.

Great thread smile.gif Yet another killer player being shared here. A fine pull! Well done on that. Here is a vid of Eric Gales around age 15 ripping it up. He was a "child prodigy" and got signed to Electra Records before he was old enough to vote. But keep in mind that he'd been exposed to music from birth and began learning music practically out of the womb. For most of us, guitar comes in just a bit later smile.gif

Thanks Todd, Yeah this guys is just great, I ran across him by accident really back when that album Resurection was released, one of the local radio stations was giving away CD's as part of some promo, didnt think much of it till I got it into my truck and popped it into my CD player and then I was hooked. I remember a couple of the songs on that album got a bit of airplay but then it seems they kind of faded away , at least commercially on the radio. Its a shame they werent more popular. Thanks for digging up that old clip too man , very cool cool.gif

Peace! Rich.....

My friend Thorsten is self taught and plays with the strings reversed too!!

Doyle Bramhall has done a lot of work with Eric Clapton, specifically the 'Me and Mr Johnson' album and subsequent Tours. He's a hell of a Dobro player!!!
