Dorian Chord Progressions?, ...

I know i should be posting this in the theory thread but i figured more people would help me here...

I love the new licks in the G dorian fusion lesson that was just posted. I really lovew the licks and want to practice using different l;icks with a chord progression ill make on my own on my multitrack. However, Im unfamiliar with the inner workings of modes still and i honestly dont know if a chord progression in the key of, lets say, G, would work with a G dorian scale. If not, or if its just a bit more complicated than that, if someone could enlighten me because then Id be able to truly experiment with these modes which im really excited to do.
Andrew, hope you can help me with this one...
