Hi mate, I'm not using Guitar Rig currently but for metal I would go simple. This is my chain in other emulators:

Tube Screamer Emulated + Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Emulated (Gratifier) + Mesa Boogie Cabinet with Celestion V30

I usually choose shure sm57 mic (Dyn 57) in an off center position.

Another option is using the Van 51 that emulates Peavey 5151 amp which is killer for metal.

The use of the EQ depends on your taste and your guitar but you can start with everything in the middle and try adding high frequencies first (treble) and then some mids. Metal guitar tones usually have a good amount of treble.

As you will see in this video, there are other amps that can be used and the tones that you can get have very different colors. It's a matter of taste. Check out this video to hear the differences:

Finally, I recommend you to check this video that gives some details on how you can get a good tone with emulations:

I agree. For example check the "Dropped HC52 Preset", it's quite aggressive.

No preset but something fast; just use mezone and crank dist. all the way (to add even more, use input level of program), then the tape echo and a cab. you like. Good shred tone with low cpu usage smile.gif

Were you able to download and install some presets from the thread?
