After taking 8 months off to recover from a hand injury and surgery, I'm finally getting back into it. I'm not sure where to start, I feel like I've forgotten everything I knew. My timing, speed, and coordination are really suffering. I really need to work up my hand strength and coordination without overexerting myself. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yeah, I’ve been just noodling around a lot just to work up some calluses and some old songs seem to be slowly coming back to me. It’s just frustrating to see how bad I got from not playing for a while. There has been so many great lessons that I missed out on and I would like to jump right into them, but I guess I need to be realistic.

Welcome back mate, glad to see you again smile.gif

My only advice is - don't rush it, take your time because you don't want any complications. You will recover the technique quickly with an steady even flow of sessions. Avoid marathon sessions.

If you feel any pain at all when you are playing or even after you are playing, I would take some time off. My injury was a combination of things and guitar didn't help it. I injuried it by having it pulled in a weird direction, but I continued to excercise, play and not rest. It got worse and my flexor tendon eventually tore. Don't wait around to see a Doctor, I waited too long hoping it would get better, but by waiting I needed surgery instead of just a cast and rest. I also had some wrist problems a few years back. I had to limit my computer time and cut out guitar for several months. Good luck!

Glad you're back again and recovering. Like others have said, it wont take long for the skills that you acquired before to return to you. Just take it easy for a while and slowly build up making sure you aren't feeling any pain smile.gif
