* Jam with me - you will find active collabs here.

* Post a topic on this board, guitar related or not - doesn't matter! You will find that chatting with instructors boosts your motivation to practice.

* You haven't missed my latest video lessons, have you?

* Oh and did you know that to become a killer guitarist you just need to focus on one thing? Everything
else is secondary. Pm me and I will explain.

Hi Cosmin
A while ago I posted on the REC the first lesson of the Beginner Corner. I am retaking it since I really want to have a solid foundation. Can you please help me with the rhythm? The instructor play three downstrum in every bar but I am not able to get where they fall in the 1&2&3&4.
Thanks in advance
Carmine

Hello Carmine smile.gif In order to understand the groove, I would break things down like this:

- left hand - please notice where each chord is being changed by counting while listening to the original recording. Change the chords along with it and don't strum, just mark the change with a downstroke. Before doing this, just listen to the recording without playing and count - in your head or out loud. Can you feel the pulse of the recording?
- right hand - how does the pattern for the strumming look and sound if we would exclude the left hand from the equation? Mute your strings with the left hand until no sound can be heard when you strum, except for the 'chuck chuck' of course. Try to follow the right hand of the instructor to nail the strumming pattern and play only with the right hand while muting the strings along with the original recording. Don't forget to count, as in the previous case.

Now your hands know what to do separately wink.gif

- step 3 is to put them together - apply the strumming pattern of the right hand to the chord changing pattern of the left hand over the original recording. It will take some time, because it's a matter of coordination and learning how to count but, this is how one can basically learn a rhythmic pattern.

Please let me know how this feels, ok?

Cosmin

Thanks Cosmin,
should I try to record as close as the lesson is or can I do the way I feel, keeping the main groove?

Hey Carmine!

The more closer to the lesson you can get, that's the best approach smile.gif as that is the whole purpose of the thing, managing to assimilate information in an accurate form. No stress tho - I am curious to see your initial approach and then we'll take it from there, deal?

Hey Carmine!

Looks like you are holding a steady groove and the dynamics are ok - maybe sometimes you are hitting the strings harder than other times - see min 0:36 for instance, but all in all it's a nice take. The more you play it and if you will play it alongside the original recording, you will gain more groove smile.gif At this point, it's correct, but it's a bit rigid - this is something that will change with time tho, as the more you will be playing and experimenting with rhythms, you will develop a sense for groove. My opinion is that we should aim to cover as much ground with rhythm oriented lessons that will develop this skill for you. What do you think?

That's it. Shall we move the Beginner Corner 2 or do you suggest any other lesson?
Thanks
Carmine

Hey Carmine smile.gif

That's a very good choice right here: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginn...-2-Open-Chords/

Before tackling this one, I wanted to ask if you would like to post the first one in the REC zone?

For the second one, in order to learn the strumming pattern, you can use the same guidelines we have spoken a few posts up smile.gif Deal?
