GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Pavlov & His '69 Reissue Fender Mustang!

Posted by: Pavlov Jan 8 2009, 06:51 PM

I thought I'd not be buying one for a long time, much less be able to afford one. However, I saw a deal on ebay I couldn't resist. Second hand with a nick on the neck (but not a part where your hand touches the wood) and two small nicks on the bottom, otherwise in great condition. Crafted in Japan in 1997. For some reason it seems to detune very, very fast. Maybe the strings are new. I don't know. Still, I'm very happy with it. Always wanted a Mustang. It doesn't sound bad. Not as good as an American strat, maybe not even as good as a mexican strat, much less my Gibson Les Paul, and it's certainly a step up from the Squier I had. I can always replace the pickups and the bridge. I just really wanted to own a Fender Mustang!

I'm so happy with it.

It's very light yellow with a red pickguard.

Looks awesome, man! I was just trying out a Mustang the other day in my local shop... just out of fun because it was kind a rare guest around here ohmy.gif Anyway, it definitely has a different feel to it compared to stratos and teles! I'm glad you got it. I couldn't even count how many great offers slipped from my hands in the last months on ebay! (looking towards a new axe myself too cool.gif )

About the detuning issue: check if the strings are properly bound to the tuning pegs and ofc pull them and test them if they're new. Other than that check how the strings behave at the nut!

Congrats once again smile.gif

I have no idea what to look for at the nut. I pulled all the strings a bit and retuned it. Hope it stays in tune now for longer than a half an hour.

Still, I haven't played a great many guitars, but out of all of those I've played (which is still quite a bit), this is the most comfortable guitar I've ever tried.

Wow, very cool guitar congrats mate. I suggest you take it to guitar tech to do a proper setup on it - it's well worth it! smile.gif
