Well not exactly the uplifting vibe I was going for....... sad.gif But still. Tony has a book coming out soon that chronicles his life and struggles. It may already be out actually. He is a great example of fighting up hill and finally realizing ones goals.

Speaking of, I must say how Impressed I was with everyone who participated in LESSON 100. It was truly EEEEPPPPPPIIIICCCCC from an instructor point of view. I packed tons of wacky, over the top licks in, and everyone just kicked butt!!!!

WARMING UP

FIRST UP! (Starting with GASP and upstroke!)

Here is something I've never asked you to do before. STARTING WITH AN UPSTROKE! For 100 lessons we have started with downstrokes to it's time to change things up! We are going to work on our right hand today so get ready for picking your brains out!

WARM UP LICK

*START WITH AN UPSTROKE! We are going to work this pattern quite a bit.

-Start by playing each position once in a loop.
-Play each position once and move up one fret then repeat, all the way to the 12th fret.
-Find max comfortable speed.

Then

-Play each position four times.
-After two loops, move up one fret.
-Speed up

*START WITH AN UPSTROKE! We are going to work this pattern quite a bit.

Attached File  101warmup.gp5 ( 1.54K ) Number of downloads: 144

ALTERNATE PICKING AND ECONOMIC PICKING

*Again, INITIATE WITH AN UPSTROKE!

Let's start again with an upstroke, but add two downstrokes to follow. Using Two down strokes in a row makes this a use if "Economic Picking". Once you get the hang of this, it will make playing complex polyrythms quite a bit easier.

-Speed up

STRICK ALTERNATE PICKING BY WAY OF THE DREADED DOUBLE PICKING!!!!!!

Double Picking (Two strokes per note) IS FREAKING HARD!!!! But not impossible. Let's take the same pattern we just played, and "Double Pick" it. Let's move to strict ALTERNATE PICKING now. Every stroke should alternate. And....

*INITIATE WITH A DOWNSTROKE!

ADDING IN THE PINKY!!!!!

Now let's turn it up a notch and add our fav finger! THE PINKY! Let's work this like the others.

*NOTICE THE THREE DOWNSTROKES IN A ROW!

I love the idea so much that I used a phaser in one of the OVERLOUD Presets smile.gif It's a bank of 3 presets. One fairly plain, one with auto wah, one with phaser. GIve them a shot! If you don't have TH2, just download the demo, you can use custom patches with it.

Just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying Lesson 102. This just might be my favorite so far! smile.gif I think it is because the speed is not so fast that it makes it near impossible for me, but is an actual attainable speed for me. Right now, 102D is kicking me in the rear end, though mad.gif . (Stretch little pinky....STtttrrrreeettttccchhhh!!!!!) I am practicing it w/the metronome while driving the pattern up to the 12th fret. This entire lesson is really fun to practice. I do plan to record it at some point, but will definitely take me longer than a week. Thanks for this & all the great lessons. smile.gif

Just my opionion & not really sure how it would work. But I think this would make a great video lesson for GMC. Maybe the first "Collab Video Lesson" w/you & Ben. Again, just speaking a crazy thought that ran through my head. wink.gif

Thanks! smile.gif Glad you are digging it. I do plan to shoot a video for this one to go with it in the wiki! Collab Video Lessons sound like a great idea! Shoot me a PM when you record some bits so I can see how your coming along smile.gif The last two lessons I've slowed things down just a tad from INSANE to Mildly Crazy. But I kept the Pinky Streeeeeettccchh! Gotta have that!

As promised. Sorry I have not created the DP files as of yet. I have had a very busy week in and out of the studio. This lesson was definitely my favourite one so far. I feel bad that I never utilised the backing tracks in the past! I am in the process of cleaning it all up so that I play comfortably enough that my fingers don't move much.

See you Saturday!

Nice! You nailed all the licks and add some for extra measure. Well played smile.gif You really have a good handle on all of the licks here. You weave in and out of them quite well which is exactly the point of this lesson. YOU RAWKKKK!!!!!!!!

I'd like to hear the backing with the licks if possible as a bonus. You can use the mic on the camcorder and play the track just open in some speakers, or record yourself playing and put that together with a video, even if the sync isn't perfect, as long as we can hear it, that's fine. But again, well played!

I will definitely do that before our next lesson! I have practise tonight and some studio time tomorrow, so I will try and see if I can plug it in somewhere.

Wow! Nice take on this lesson, Nihilist! That actually helped me out. It might have helped me a little more if I could see your fretting hand. But I'm looking forward to your version w/the bt.

I know this has been discussed before, but I downloaded VLC Media Player so I could slow down the bt & it made it much easier for me to play along. I also used the Scale Generator & that helped even more having the Gmin displayed on the fretboard. I'm determined to get a decent take out of it so I can upload it.

Thanks again for such a great lesson! smile.gif

I will record it again tomorrow. I thought my fret hand was visible when I recorded this, but I realised afterward that it was not. I was ridiculously exhausted when I recorded it, or else I would have fancied a second take. I promise you will get to see both my hands next time!
