GMC Forum _ Album Reviews _ David Wallimann - Deep Inside The Mind

Posted by: Wallimann Sep 4 2007, 08:12 AM

Hi my friends!
I decided to post some stuff on my first solo album.
It's been out for a few months and thought I'd share some info for you...

Deep inside the Mind is a Christian orientated album that tells the story of a man meeting the Lord.
Spoken lyrics help the listener imerge in the story. The songs are very guitar orientated which is why I think it has its place here..

Reviews

"Looking for a French progressive guitar virtuoso that is sold out to Jesus Christ? Well, if you aren't, you should be. Mostly instrumental with a dramatic mostly spoken word story line, Deep Inside the Mind tells the story of a young man's adventure of discovery, from the exposing of his fallen nature, to the emptiness of self loathing, to the discovery and embracing of a higher power."
www.spiritualprog.com

"Prog rockers will surely dig this! Great metrical riffing, fabulous harmonized (guitar) lead lines, walls of backing vox, and ass-kicking leads!! Instrumental guitar fans should certainly give this picker an earful!"
www.intimateaudio.com

"What we have here is a progressive christian rockalbum which reminds me of the music of Neal Morse, Dream Theater, Spocks beard with guitarwork like Steve Vai and other guitarheroes.
It is a an independent release and that’s what makes it so interesting.
David himself plays guitar, keyboards and does all the voices.
You might think: what! no vocals? Yepp that’s right. The album is a conceptalbum about a man meeting Jesus. Deep inside the mind God whispers to every heart in words of love and truth.
That explains the title. The first part of the album decribes the struggle of a man against that voice. He thinks he’s going insane and tries to forget about God’s call. As the album continues the voice gets more and more clear and finally he understands that Jesus is the only way to get to God.
All he has to do is believe in Him and ask for forgiveness.
The guitarwork of David is great! Everyone who loves the above mentioned bands should try to get a copy from David."

Wow, Even though I'm not a big fan of religion/christianity I gotta say your instrumental work is great.

David, incredible musicianship. And I think it's incredible that you are expressing your faith journey through creative ways. It is amazing to me how the modern Church has done such a horrible job at integrating the arts and creativity in general into it its being. The fallout has been so detrimental. Thanks for the work.

Wow David, this is a Awesome Album.

God Bless You Sir.

Hey David,
Although I'm not the slightest bit religious, I still got your album because I'm a sucker for great music and sheer guitar virtuosity, both of which I heard in the samples. smile.gif
It's so awesome to have so many talented musicians here on GMC, and I hope to hear more of your music in the future cool.gif

Posted by: Andrew Cockburn Sep 5 2007, 07:41 AM

Hi David, I'm in roughly the same position as a couple of the above posters - the religious aspects don't speak to me, but I have a lot of respect for the fact that you have found your own path smile.gif

And just as importantly the music sounds awesome so I will be buying a copy for sure!

Posted by: The Uncreator Sep 5 2007, 07:54 AM

I like the religious aspect actually, i think when done right, when using ones religion it explains alot about them, how they feel in a song, or a story, regardless of what religion.

And i think its done right, its a very intersting concept for a story, would make a good book and/or movie.

But before that, comes that mindblowing guitar work!!

Awesome piece of art David!!
Tho I'll wait for my copy and write more about it for sure wink.gif

If anyone hasn't decided whether or not to buy this album please DO get it. It's a great one and I'm pretty picky when it comes to instrumental albums.

Well sir, I am glad to hear about the beliefs you and I share, since we only live 100 miles apart maybe we can get together and play sometime. Even as an older man I do feel God has a plan for my years of playing. My faith tells me He will be sending me somewhere when I am ready.

What to say...amazing compositions,chops,licks..MUST HAVE for every guitar lover!!!
But what impresses me here the most is David's way of talking to God and his commitment to religion!!
I'm a muslim and I understand every single word David says here
cause this language is common to all of us. smile.gif
You're are a Good Man David,God bless you and keep it up this way!! smile.gif

Thats a great point Muris - What David has shown us is that for people who follow different religions or even no religion, music is common to all of us, and there is much more that we have in common than we have differences over - I have been saving David's album for my flight to the UK tomorrow - really looking forward to sitting back in the plane with no distractions and immersing myself in it. Then Muris, I'll listen to your album again, then repeat until I land smile.gif

Thanks to both of you for making amazing music, we are all the richer for knowing you both, long may it continue!

Thanks so much for the comments!
It's great to be able to share my beliefs and who I am through the gift of music.
Andrew, have a great trip! I wish I could go to Europe!
:-)

Music is the ultimate tool for connecting people of different race or religion. A good concert, for me is a Metal show, is the one place where i see people who are christians, atheists, muslims, black, white, asian, male, female no matter who they are come together to celebrate one common thing they love, Music.

Thank God For Music Is What I Say smile.gif

Listened to it - loved it smile.gif I love the quirky "I'm not going to take myself too seriously" attitude, mixed with some seriously cool guitar playing. I also loved the quieter clean potrions, were you using your Piezo pickup on the Parker for that?

Glad you liked it!
The quietter pieces were just my Parker "regular" pickups played directly into the mixing board.

Finally I have listened through the whole album and I must say I am really impressed.

David definately holds quality and concept throroughout the whole album. In some ways I get Vai vibrations from the album, allthough David definately has his own thing going!

Boy I am honoured to have you teaching at our site! biggrin.gif

Thanks so much for the kind words Kris!
It's an honor to be part of GMC :-)
