Glasgow Kiss Help! Options

hey guy, I've got auditions for college and solo gigs coming up and i love JP and glasgow kiss, so i started learning it about a week ago, but i just can't get it!!! ahhh its so fustrating, i practice about 4-6 hours a day. Sometimes i'll play the intro perfectly at speed, then can't play it to save my life. The song is 206 bpm, i started about 160 and worked my way but i still can't get it right 100% of the time and it's really bugging me!!! has anyone got any tips for when you just can't get something perfectly down???? I must have practiced the intro about 20 hours this week and still can't get it right!!! PLEASE HELP!! thanks!!

*Figure out which mechanic is holding you back (string skipping, outside picking, inside picking, etc), and design an small exercise to exaggerate the difficulty. To find it out, note the areas where you screw up, and see what's common.

*Play the first note, now play the first 2 notes (perfectly), now the first 3 notes, etc.

*Play the song faster than needed in bursts, but always go back to a slower speed where you're playing it perfectly. The slower speed should comprise most of your practice time.

Also, sometimes you just need to give your body of a bit of time for it all to sink in (assuming you've been practicing heavily, as you have).

Both Dark Dude and Micke are correct... very good and true advice We're also our own worst enemies for piling the pressure on ourselves so it's no wonder our bodies can't relax into learning a technique sometimes.

Annoying and contradictory as it may seem, sometimes we have to physically and mentally let go of something in order for it to sink in Try the advice above and keep us posted with how you're getting on !

Possibly the problem is because you started from such a fast tempo. Try doing it slower for couple of days, like 90-100, and then increase slowly. This way you will be able to play it more faster. Also, give yourself some time for this new set of skills to settle, 3-4 days.
