Which would be best? also what would be a good footswitch to go with your top choice.
my vote goes to an roland cube 30. because A I have one and B it's very versatile.
just get a footswitch with it and you have a good set.
if you really want a pedal I can't help you
Definitely the Cube, I'd say.
And for a pedal, you have many options. If you want a pedal that will make your amp sound better overall guaranteed, check out the electro harmonix LPB1. It's a booster, guaratee you it will make the sound fuller and nicer. Only $40 too. I have a review of it in the reviews forum with some clips if you wanna check it out (as long as you excuse my bad playing ). Otherwise, the cube has chorus, flanger, tremolo, delay and reverb which will cover you pretty well for effects. I don't think you'll need a distortion pedal, or even an overdrive pedal, a boost like the lpb1 will do just fine to enhance the sound of the amp IMO. Would be kind of redundant to get an overdrive or distortion with the built in stuff.
I only meant the pedal if I went with a tube, and I just realized my dad has a ampeg j12t, that I can use (it was in his closet) so what pedal should I use if Im using that amp?
No Marshall Mg will win against any amp, the MGs are not even real marshalls but another companies amp that was bought by marshall and has now their label. The cube has more watts and more sound options + it just sounds better than an mg marshall.
Hmm, well if you're going to use the ampeg, you probably will need a drive or distortion pedal. What kind of music do you like?
I generally play rock/lighter metal, alternative rock, that kinda stuff, and im on a tight budget for a pedal.
The Roland Cube is definitely the best choice from those in my opinion. Check out some clips of it from youtube
I know but could I get a good rock/alt rock/metal sounds from an ampeq tube amp which I already have?
What pedal would be required.
Well mate, these are all very different amps. Have you tried them yet?
I would really test them all to see what fits best for me.
1. Cube is a good practice amp, flexible and with very good cleans. Drive is also decent enough, but not as good as cleans of course.
2. Marshall is the worst of the bunch, not so good cleans and muddy sound. Avoid that.
3. Jr. is very different, it's a tube amp. This would be my choice, but tubes are not for everyone. In my experience people tend not to use it unless they are older and need a cheap but good quality amp tone wise.
Ivan, what pedal would you reccomend with my Ampeq tube amp though?
I would recommend the Boss Metal Zone pedal for that kind of music
Well since your choice have been narrowed , do you have ability to try out the roland and JR ? if you can try them and see which one you like better (since they are very different) ...
