Hey Muris? I've noticed that most of ur lessons revolve around fusion. I have been attracted to this type of music but I do not know what Fusion actually means. I am interested in broadening my horizon and stray from metal for a while so I thought knowing what Fusion actually is is a good start. And since I cant play, I thought maybe learning the theory behind Fusion would be good too but u dont have to answer that because Im sure that will take ages.
So, what is Fusion? This post has been edited by sigma7: Sep 17 2008, 12:15 AM -------------------- ![]() |

There are few topics in forum already with same or similar question.
In short lines,Fusion is mix of different styles. Most of the time it's mix of Jazz and Rock but with some other elements as well. So whatever you mix and come up with, you can call it Fusion at some point. -------------------- Youtube

oh i didnt realize there was a forum already there thanks Muris! now I know what fusion means when I practice ur lessons! Quick minor clarification - as Muris said there are some threads in the forum rather than their being an individual sub-forum for Fusion. So you may have to search the forum a bit bit sigma to find those particular posts/threads. Also as Muris says fusion is a fusion of different musical styles though often it's taken to mean a fusion of jazz and rock. For the latter some 'iconic' players and groups include Weather Report, Yellow Jackets, Allan Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Dixie Dregs, post Yardbyrds Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa, PAL and so on. Have a look here for a more definitive list. Perhaps a couple of standout features of rock/jazz fusion is the use of a more complicated rhythmic feel, modal playing, exotic scales and 'playing outside'. For more on these have a look at both Muris's Instructor sub-forum and Andrew's Theory lessons as many of these issues have been discussed in those.
