Ok guys here it is smile.gif

Firstly from myself, as always I`m extremly grateful to you all for taking part, it impress`s me no end the amazing level of skill that you all have, thank you for contributing smile.gif

The rest of the post is from Pedja and a huge thank you to him from me for taking the time to write the comments, thanks mate smile.gif

--------------

Welcome to another instructor collaboration. This time we had 6 instructors participate and overall it turned out to be great mixture of styles and playing.
I was afraid that backing track would put off or hold you back with that b5 non diatonic change, but I must say you all did good there.
It was pleasure doing these comments and as always it was extremly hard task for me to find your flaws since you already have your own style polished in a way. Hope you take all the comments right way, if you don't like them I encourage you to write bad comments about my playing - I won't mind I promise smile.gif

Onto the comments...

Lian (0:00 - 01:04)

Sound
- Strong sound, works great with backing track. Well done !
Intro - Descending scale bends sounded very strong I liked it. Around 0:05-0:06 phrasing was a bit off so that response sounded slightly weaker. Overall good work !
Phrasing/Time feel/Rhythm - This was great along with development section. Your phrasing was almost 100% perfect (except the part I mentioned in the intro section). Time feel was there from begining to the end, from half time to double time feel ! Well done Lian !
Development/Melodic shapes - Awesome development. Sounded very professional and you approached whole backing track as composition rather then jamming. Excellent work Lian !
Technique - Your development and melodic approach dictated different technique as your solo wasn't speed oriented. Everything was really well executed apart from sweep picking arpeggios (in my opinion). Overall really good work.
Ending - Harmonized repeated ending sounded strong. I would perhaps like to hear climax in the ending here with higher ending or specific rhythm.

Overall this was really great take. I really enjoyed development, techniques and melodic approach here. There was a lot of repetition and harmonizing techniques and this solo definitely took me for a ride and told me a story. Weak parts were ending and some sweep picking in my opinion, everything else was flawless !
Very well done Lian and I hope to see you in future instructor collaborations !

Emir (1:05 - 2:05)

Sound - As in previous collaborations great sound with boosted high frequencies. Well done Emir.
Intro - Excellent opening with open string motives with repetition. Just great man.
Phrasing/Time feel/Rhythm - Great work with everything especially time feel. I like how you changed feel in B section and used half time feel there. Mostly rhythm was triplet type feel, just taught it was worth mentioning smile.gif
Development/Melodic shapes - There was different types of development, repetition, different endings and fresh new ideas. Melodic shapes were mostly scale runs and arpeggio shapes. Well done Emir.
Technique - Your alternate picking and legato really made a statement here. I liked it a lot as it fitted your aggressive style of playing. Great work man.
Ending - You had climax point in your ending which was awesome ! Repetition + different ending + high note = never fails ! This was just perfect Emir.

Overall this take had some great technical runs in it but it also used repetition, sequence and motive development. If I had to pick something as being weak I would say lack of space/rests in solo and melodic shapes. When I take into consideration that you are very agressive type player with statement always out there (in your face so to say), then you can disregard lack of space/rests in solo as you always want your listener to be on his or her toes when listening to your solo. However, with melodic shapes I think you can do more work in terms of interval jumps. Think about interval soloing, using 5ths, 6ths for starters then move it into 10ths or 12ths (3rds and 5ths up an octave). This is of course just my observation and something that I think you can use more of in your solos.
Other than that, this take was awesome Emir.
Thank you Emir and hope to see you in future instructor collaborations !

Piotr (2:04 - 3:08)

Sound - I like your sound Piotr, perfect balance of all frequencies. Well done !
Intro - Excellent intro, really enjoyed interval jumps with different ending. Awesome man.
Phrasing/Time feel/Rhythm - Rhythm and time feel were great here but there was one small mistake on phrasing around 2:14. It was more technical execution but it resulted on phrasing to drop a bit there. Great work overall in this area Piotr.
Development/Melodic shapes - Melodic shapes were just awesome here, especially in the intro section. Development was definitely happening trough out altough I liked it most with Wah wah soloing - that was just perfect. Well done Piotr.
Technique - Flawless technique apart from that 2:14 part I mentioned. Very cool legato and alternate soloing in specific section, just like what Emir and couple of others did. Awesome work.
Ending - Excellent ending, very strong, same rhythm different melody with some sequence applied. Perfect Piotr.

This take was great Piotr. Wah wah section was especially refreshing I must confess. Your alternate picking and legato were great as were melodic shapes in the intro section. Development was also strong trough whole solo. I must mention excellent use of Exotic scales in your solo, which not many others did. The only thing "missing" (if I may say that) is your signature tremolo bar licks and sweep picking arpeggios, but you had to take something out, am I right ? smile.gif

Thank you Piotr this was great, hope to see you in future instructor collaborations !

Trond (3:09 - 4:06)

Sound - Very strong sound, comes over the top, fits your playing style great. Excellent work Trond.
Intro - Perfect intro ! Question answer type phrasing used along with repetition and different endings. Awesome man.
Phrasing/Time feel/Rhythm - Time feel was absolutely great here Trond. The way you combined slow with fast rhythm using question and answer type phrasing really made a huge difference here. Your phrasing was mostly down beat based but that is perfectly normal for this style of music. Awesome work Trond.
Development/Melodic shapes - Development was just unbelievable, especially when you did double time fell and shifted back to neoclassical type licks from 3:41 all the way to 3:58 ! Melodic shapes were also great especially when you used interval jumps and then you harmonized them to make it sound like some madness smile.gif This happens from 3:16 to 3:25. Awesome work man.
Technique - Legato, alternate, bending it was all there. I loved it how you created really interesting sections with those techniques and blend them perfectly with time feel soloing. Great execution Trond.
Ending - Good ending, repetition used and development with different 2nd ending, ending finally on the root. It was good, I think you could have done better by doing some slide up, or bend up to root or some other chord tone !

This take was awesome Trond. I enjoyed your intro, melodic shapes, time feel , development and proper use of techniques. Your sound was also very strong and came over the top. Great job with all of these. One thing that I would change perhaps is that ending, other than that you did really well man.
Thank you for your take Trond, hope to see you in future instructor collaborations !

Ivan Mihaljevic (4:06 - 5:11)

Sound - Very strong sound, clear and precise, every note rings out with distortion. Great work Ivan.
Intro - Nice work with intro, slow bending as question followed by faster lick as answer. Well done man.
Phrasing/Time feel/Rhythm - Mostly great work with everything. There were times when your phrases sounded unfinished because of rhythm choice or they simple didn't respond. Best example of this would be at 4:59. Good work with time feel as there was both slow and fast rhythms used in different sections. Great work overall.
Development/Melodic shapes - Development was good as there was both repetition and motive development in there. Melodic shapes were mostly scale runs, patterns and licks. Good work man.
Technique - Very interesting mixture of techniques. Alternate picking is without doubt your best friend here, but you also used tapping and tremolo bar type licks which sounded refreshing. Excellent work !
Ending - Excellent ending. Very effective tremolo bar type lick (Satriani uses this one a lot!). It works great since you build into it with same rhythm and bending ideas. Excellent Ivan.

Overall this take was very interesting and had some cool things in it. I liked your sound, intro and ending, as well as technique you used with development techniques. I think one thing that's missing in your solo is diversity in terms of scales/modes for soloing, especially over b5 chord (Bb5). You mostly played harmonic minor, natural minor and some slight modal interchange soloing over Eb chord.
For future as recommendation, you can always use Tritone interval whenever you encounter this type of harmonic situation. E as tonal center and Bb as "passing" or outside chord. Since it sounds out and like it doesn't belong in there, you can also use some sort of Dominant or Diminished scale harmony ! Like Bb half whole diminished scale for example. Most of the guys did E blues scale as it contains Bb note in it, so they kind of emphasized that in their licks as comparison to what I am suggesting you now.
Everything else besides mentioned was well executed.

Thank you for your take Ivan and hope to see you in future instructor collaborations !

Muris (5:11 - 6:11)

Sound - Great sound Muris, all the notes ring out with distortion and EQ's are very well balanced. Excellent.
Intro - Very clever intro Muris smile.gif You used low melody as question and then interval leaping as answer. There was also question and answer phrasing as well as different endings. Perfect.
Phrasing/Time feel/Rhythm - Phrasing was spot on. You had slower soloing in first part of the solo and then double time feel in second part until the end. Good work Muris.
Development/Melodic shapes - I have to say great job on melodic shapes first. Interval skips were there along with regular things like scale runs, sequence, arpeggios etc. Development was there as well but I would have liked perhaps different playing in last sections rhythm wise. Otherwise awesome work man.
Technique - Alternate, economy, sweeping, tapping, bending and sliding. I think you did awesome here , especially with tapping that sounded like PINBALL MACHINE from 6:02. Awesome work man.
Ending - I like how you ended your solo on that characteristic note Bb that kept popping out in the main section. Great work.

Overall this is awesome take Muris. I like your sound, intro, phrasing, melodic shapes and technique. What I would advise perhaps is more balanced use of time feel in terms of using always slow then fast playing. I know you like to shred so its hard to stop when you get going, but this is just my advice take it or leave it smile.gif
One more thing that can be improved is ending in my opinion. You could have used double stop, slide out, some tapping trick or ended solo with climax higher. Those are just my suggestions that I think would have made that ending stronger.
Everything else was awesome man, I have nothing to add for your take.

Thank you Muris for your take and see you in future instructor collaborations !

I hope that you guys found your comments useful. It took me a lot of listening to find things that need work. For some of you there were obvious things but for others it was very delicate and precise things. I want you to take all comments with good heart, as I don't have any means to discredit nor to praise anybody for reason, I am just expressing what I feel about your current takes.
Thank you all for participating, it was very interesting and challenging collaboration. Hope to see you all in next one !

Great collab and awesome comments! Thanks Pedja&Chris!

btw, I've noticed that my take is not synchronized with backing track, so my playing hurts ears and this great final mix! It's unfair... tongue.gif
