With all the spark going about concerning 2012 and the Mayan prophecy, Hopi Indian prophecy, you name it doomsday scenario, I think that above all else, 2012 will be a GREAT year for Music! And a great year for Musicians! And thus a great year for GMC!

So let's not get all worked up about "The End" instead, let's use all of this media hype as a creative impetus to stir our minds/souls to look deep and pull out music fit for End Of Time! (Knowing of course, that it's not the end)

So I thought I'd start a thread to kick start thoughts and ideas on the subject. I'm going to focus on this line of though in my music writing for this year as it only happens once in a long while with the "Galactic Alignment" and what not. And hope to look back on this time and music with fondness smile.gif

First up! Here is an article describing that Japanese researchers have found the mythic "PLANET X" which is a fascinating story indeed. The Doomsquad say that this hunk of rock ( a plutoid, not a planet) is going to come spinning towards earth and do all sorts of nasty things. Is it true? Of course not. But! What if it were? What song would you write about that?

That topic actually offers a lot when it comes to songwriting.
I mean, you could write a prog-metal song dealing with the plutoid...a death metal song about the the dead rising after the impact. A ballad about how to spend your last night on earth with a girl you love. Or a punk song about how you don't give a damn laugh.gif

Man, too many possibilities!!

Well said! smile.gif The songwriting almost takes care of itself. As the year goes on, I'm guessing we are going to see loads of doomsday themed music/movies/etc.

However, I think missed it completely on the song about a plutoid idea. I'm more thinking of the "End of the world" as a creative impetus for song writing. Metal is a great genre to take on such ideas. I'm hoping that all the furor over the 2012 thing leads to some great Metal honestly and great music in general. As we contemplate even the possible end of everything, hopefully it will inspire us.

But as you mentioned, many folks know next to nothing about the entire 2012 mythos so they are not likely to be at all inspired by the idea. Punk for example, is unlikely to moved by the concept. I'm thinking the lyrically complex bands that I like (you could guess and probably be right) will take advantage of this unique point in history to make great music.
