First one for me, only because Maiden is my favorite, after that, id pick Death or Prog. i'd try to fit all of them, but it only gives you 20 smile.gif

Tough choice between Progressive and Power tongue.gif

Voted Progressive
I generally like most types of metal (that i have heard) though, except Grind - cant stand the singing and the repetative snare beating on the drumming that seems to be typical of the genre:P

Black metal of course. Darkthrone, Burzum, Mayhem, Immortal, Aura Noir, Bathory, Gorgoroth, some Emperor, Dødheimsgard, Anaal Nathrakh, some Satyricon, Ragnarok, The Legion, Khold, Nifelheim, Venom and alot of random stuff I come over. I havent bought any black metal records for ages though. The blues stole my attention smile.gif
But I also LOVE Thrash, and some death. Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath aswell.
I'm probably gonna get killed by you guys on GMC(you have to find me first!) when I say this, but I more or less HATE most metal genres, excluding what I mentioned above and a few other tongue.gif

I just started listening to Pantera 5 mintues ago btw, awesome stuff. Faaaaaat riffs.

It really depends on what my mood is. Lately, ive been listening to a lot of doomish sludgish drone metal, seems fit my feelings at the moment. Id still pick old school Grind though just because of a few bands that reminds me how grate the 70's and 80's Grindhouse movies were.

I'm boring, so I picked "A Combination Of The Above Genres Not Mentioned (Please Say Which)".

I was choosing between that and doom, wich wasn't there. Or death, or black, or thrash, or drone, or.. Yeah, I just can't decide, but my favourite would be some kind of doomish folk wich influences of black and post rock (wich basically means I'm a huge Agalloch fanboy), or just plain old doomdeath (old katatonia <3). I would've picked progressive, but I hate dream theatre and stuff, so I just couldnt have picked it because of that.

And I also have to say that I hate a lot of metal genres, mostly power and heavy that sounds like Iron Maiden. (Yes, I hate Iron Maiden, live with it biggrin.gif )

I'm all about the pirate metal. I can't help it. It's goofy and that's the way I like it. All I'm missing now is ninja metal.

I chose other, for a few reasons.

1. I don't think my favorite styles been made yet, everyday I come across new hybrids which amaze me.

2. The millions of genre's kind of bother me, they seem to cause people to miss a lot of good music by avoiding entire styles. For instance, I have yet to find a pirate metal band I liked, but I'm not gonna give up on the genre cause I imagine there has got to be one that is crazy good.

3. It really depends on the day and atmosphere. When I'm sleeping I like melodic stuff, when i'm drunk with friends I listen to a lot of Folk/epic stuff (especially Korpiklaani's - Wooden Pints)

4. I love Le Scrawl and don't think they can really be categorized. Good luck trying though. Like Grind-ska-Jazz-Polka of death or something.

Very good point! My rule of thumb is that even for genres I detest, the top 1% is worth listening to, and can teach you something.

my favorite genre of metal is... metal. i don't really genre-tize it too much. i mean, i have like, metal. old brit metal. metalcore. that's it. i don't like going too much into genres because somebody always gets mad about and needs to argue that lamb of god is not metal, their nu-metal, no, they're groove-metal (check their wikipedia) blah blah blah. just a bunch of genre elitists being annoying. "indie", metal, and punk music is full of that crap. it bugs the hell out of me. just listen to the freaking music, damn!

sorry. that was wayy ranting and off topic. i am not trying to argue with anyone.

Oh i know there are Tons of subgenres, and in a way, there all needed, just to classify a band i guess, and then again they really arent, but just because you hear one black metal band and dont liek them, doesnt mean they all suck, and alot of people probably do that and miss out on stuff they might really enjoy.

Im glad i love pretty much every genre, but not every band of course. smile.gif
