Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

I know its not perfect -- and there's a blatant wrong note right near the beginning.. and my timing could be better at the end. What other things should I focus on as I practice this? By the way.. this is the reason I joined the website in the first place smile.gif

Amazing solo! biggrin.gif Yeah, it's a good take, your tone is very good as in the other lesson that you recorded. There are two things to work on this one, the first one is timing... this is a problem that I noted in the other lesson too so you have to concentrate on it. The second thing are your bends, the are many bend played ok but there are some bends out of pitch or weak.

Great attempt on this one. Timing, although not perfect, wasn't bad at all.. just maybe slightly behind. However, I'd rather be slightly behind the beat than in front.. being behind is easier to correct with more practice and confidence in a piece wheras being in front is a trait which is harder to change because people are so used to doing it. So you're in a good position to improve smile.gif

The main improvements to me would be in bending and vibrato. In this take, vibrato was the weakest wheras your bending did the job ok. You've obviously got a good ability of finding the correct pitch so it just needs honing a bit.

With the vibrato, it was small and very fast, like an angry bee.. there's nothing wrong with that, it's how we all did it wink.gif To gain more control and the ability to choose the effect and amount of vibrato you use you'll need to work on it.

I'm more than happy to provide you with some lesson ideas to help you with these things.. just send me (or one of the other instructors) a p.m. anytime smile.gif

The guys pointed out the main important aspects so this leaves me with only one thing to add - vibrato is a technique which has to be dealt with! The wider the vibrato, the more fluid and beautiful you'll sound smile.gif I presume that you're thinking that if you'll vibrate to wide, you'll most probably lose the timing, as you won't be able to move fast enough to the next note - this comes in time, and if it's the case, practice slowly and get to know your body and the way it reacts to the things you want it to do. Try and listen to the details in the lesson, the bends and vibrato and articulation in general - see how you can reproduce them as accurately as possible smile.gif

Keep up the good work mate!

This is cool, I like the tone and the percussive style you are developing. You seem to be doing a lot of scratching of all the strings and trying to mute the strings so only some notes are being heard. This creates that scratching sound and increased attack tone for every note. Although it is a cool style, it is possibly just a tiny bit exaggerated for this solo. Because of the sharp percussive style, the guitar seems to get out of tune a bit, as you do towards the end of the solo, so playing with less dynamics and lntroducing a compressor with higher volume settings can solve this problem (plus you won't have to play that hard).

Timing needs some polishing up, on some notes you slip and don't play the phrase with the drums. Try to tap your foot, it will be better.

In the whole take, I think most work is needed on bending. The technique itself is very good, and vibrato is good too, but you just need to gain full control. You are getting there which is a good sign, so try to rehearse the bending a bit more, and always get the proper bended note to correct pitch - it is very important that you do so.
