Smells, count me in:D Im making a video tonight!

Posted by: Jesse Dec 10 2008, 07:24 PM

HERES MINE!

Ok beforeall, I had to re-record 3 times due to crazy cam not recording:D

This time it worked but forgive me, I accidently didnt turn off the in-cam-mic function, This won' t happen in the future, it' s just, well, I forgot about it! And IT looks like I have 3 chins, I don' t. It' s because I was close to the camera and I was looking down:D Any more stuff you should know? eeehm... yeah! The synching is off by a thousand of a second due to windows movie maker! Enjoy the take... or don't!

What I want to achieve with MTP?
I just want to become an overall better player. I love working towards projects, and within the group, to see each others stuff and to learn from each other. Some stuff I really need to improve are major scale soloing, some neoclassical, and metal stuff . Alot! And this is another great way to play good guitar more! I would love to hear stuff from the mentor, regarding our uploads. It would be great to see progress over time!

Does anyone know how to view on a Mac? For some reason when I click on the link all I see is a Quicktime logo.

Posted by: Praetorian Dec 11 2008, 02:07 AM

Hey Smells, is this going to be starting from the beginning of the MTP that I took part in the first time around? Or is it going to be new lessons? I would love to jump back in if it isn't repeating what we already did!

Posted by: jer Dec 11 2008, 02:19 AM

I'm in.

And yeah, I'm fine working with a new Intermediate person. Whatever.

I'd like to be a better lead player. I've been at the same level for years and I'm tired of not progressing. I'm comfortable in my rhythm but I need to push it and get better.

I'd also like to be a better improv player and learn more about writing.

Video attached. I used my one from the MTP pilot since I'm heading out of town tomorrow morning and wont be back for almost a week.

This happens to me from time to time as well - If I just right click and save the file first, opening the downloaded file seems to work for me. Hope this helps.

I would love to take part of the MTP program.

I will try to upload something but I don't think I have time to do it until next week, is this ok? I have sound recordings right now but Video takes some learning smile.gif I dont have a webcam so I will have to use a normal videocamera.

When is the deadline for the video?

I would like to improve my lead and.. dont know what to call it, advanced rythm? Lead Rythm? hehe. A melody that are part of the "rythmsection" behind the song if you catch my drift, not just chords. Powergalloping is an example i guess. I would also like to improve my theoryknowledge but I guess that is not part of the MTP?

Next week will be fine, the sign up will be running and open for a while, we`ll keep you informed of when we are looking to close the sign ups, but it wont be for a few weeks yet, we have to find the intermediates from the competition first, but we need this runniong as well so that everything is in place when they are ready to start smile.gif

Alan

Just a quick webcam showing you playing using some different techniques. It's basically to see whether you'd benefit as there is obviously no point in you being in beginner MTP if you are better than intermediate quality and can play better than the person teaching you. So just webcam or vid cam yourself playing guitar and discuss what you want to improve in your playing and what you want to be able to play (so say jazz or blues etc.)

Posted by: Praetorian Dec 11 2008, 10:15 PM

Ok Smells...I followed your advice and am jumping onboard! The pilot program was great, and I am sure the actual program will be even better! Here is the last lesson video I uploaded from the pilot MTP program...this reflects closely my current playing.

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=10963

I am still very focused on learning both the blues as well as metal. I love these two styles of music and enjoy playing them both! I am able to practice about an hour each day when I work and about 2 hours each day when I am off...after the kids go to bed of course! Can't wait to get started...thanks again!

Hi there
As you can see in my video I'm not a skilled player hehe.

I know some basics and I'm studing and learning a lot in the Theory Board.

My objetive of couse is to learn play guitar tongue.gif . My preference is soloing, but I know that rythm guitar is importat too to become complete guitarist.

I like very much Steve Vai's style, and I know that is very difficult to be as good as he is, but if I don't start I'll never know if this is possible tongue.gif

Here is my video.

I noticed that the part with backing track the volume isn't balanced so I also put another video with this part better balanced.

And I also want to put here the entry I have posted for the beginner competition.

Hey there,

I'm very interested in joining the MTP. Although I'm heading into a direction that seems the right one I still need guidance.
What I really want is to reach a professional level, but I think that that's more a goal for a multiple-year-plan. So right now I just want to really master the basics so I have a solid foundation. I'm talking about (speed)picking, legato, tapping, extending my lick library, bends, vibrato, rhythm playing and theory. I really like listening to all styles, but what I want to achieve is an accessible guitar style. I don't want to sound like MAB/Yngwie/Paul Gilbert, but rather like Eddie van Halen/Richie Sambora/Slash.

Pleaaaase let me be in this program!!

my bank fails to send me a new creditcard (old one expired in september!) i hope to get
it before end of the year >__>

I want to learn everything needed to be a good guitarist, i need to learn all the basics first...
I like all styles, but mostly i'd love to play stuff like Vai, Satriani and Slash someday biggrin.gif

I can do some basic vibrato, bending and alternate picking, but im very bad with hammerons/pulloffs
and can't tap at all tongue.gif

Didn't you record a video earlier for mtp? If so, use that one! smile.gif

ahah, thanks for remembering me!! Now let's find that post wink.gif

Ok so here we go:

I'v started playing guitar around the age of eight. I didn't really practice or anything, so it didn't real work, but I did learn my chords. I really started playing last October, and in December I started using GMC. I can play solo's like the modern blues (Muris), so that's my solo lvl. For rhythm guitar, as I said I can play most chords and songs like hotel California and Save Tonight are not very hard to play along. For riffing and power chords… I used to play heavy metal for beginners 3, and now I play Pumping Rock lesson, so I can use power chords just fine. My finger style is limited, I can do some easy tunes (tears in heaven) but that's about it. In improvisation, I'm more of the less is more attitude, and I don't like shredding. That's why I prefer the more melodic collaboration, for example the recent Gary Moore Style collab. My theory knowledge is the pentatonic scale, relative minor, harmonics and some more bits and pieces (e.g. how to make triads). Also I know the major scale in theory, not in boxes.

I want to learn the following things in the coming 6 months:

-Better improvisation, more melodic playing. Being able to put feeling in my music. Also being able to write, and not just improvise. I'm very active in collaborations, so that helps wink.gif

-Major scale, being able to play the positions. Fluid use of the pentatonic scale.

-I'd love to play more rock riffs.. I live for 'em wink.gif I love riffs like those in AC/DC.

-Improved Vibrato. Better use of it, and my own developed style.

-Improve my fingerstyle, just adding more and more songs. I want to get it to a higher level.

Furthermore, I want to keep on playing in between everything to keep progress with it, mainly by doing more and more GMC lessons.

My style would be varied. Going from soft blues, to hard rock. When I listen to music, I prefer rock, pop and eighties music. For instance, I love Toto!

When I play I prefer to use a more melodic approach. Lots of blues and stuff

I'v uploaded a little video with some sort of a Kaznie Medley Just some different stuff to show what I can. I also added a little improv. This realy was an improv, because after all the settings were right, I took it straight away, no overdubbing or whatsoever. The backing came from Siggum, so credits to him!

When I typed this text, it was a while ago. I've improved quit a bit, so now I'm into the same stuff, just a level higher wink.gif the most important thing in music is, for me, being able to play live. Meaning know some cool stuff, and being able to play it without any troubles or mistakes.

This is a video (and improvisation) I recorded back when writing the text. I now have a new guitar wink.gif

Video: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=9439
Little improv: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=9440

For updated stuff.. I'm in the video collabs. So to see my playing, check out the Rockabilly collaboration, around 4:45.

Ok here are some videos of my current playing level

The first videos is of Lian Gerbinos Viking-FOlk metal lesson and this describes my best side......Metal rythm the style i like to play the most....

This is a video of Muris Bb minor beginner lesson this video describes what i need to improve on..... Vibrato and Tone controll...... I have big difficulties to get my playing sound good and alive........

A video demonstrating my AP

 AP_2_98_bpm.wmv ( 3.42MB ) : 198

Some of the goals i have is to improve my vibrato, AP and legato.......

I also want to learn some more theory... I have never really liked to read so going to the theary board and start reading everything is not an option for me i would like to learn theory while playing.........

Hopefully i can become a better player with some coaching on the side....

Hi guys,

Here is my entry for the MTP beginner part.

Video files

Here are a couple of videos which show my current level of playing (1st one more focussing on techniques, 2nd and 3rd one are more about 'feeling').

Christmas Rock Collab

Blues Ballad Collab

Slow Pentatonics Lesson

Audio files

Besides these videos I have participated in several collabs, of which I have attached the sound files in chronological order (it would probably also show how I progressed during the last months, and I don't even want to listen to some of the earlier ones anymore tongue.gif ).

Background

I have been playing the guitar effectively for about a year back in the early '90s, however lacked completely a proper lesson-plan etc etc. I was basically just trying to hit the strings and get proper sounds out of it (which to a certain extend even worked tongue.gif ). After this, I remained playing very minimal (sometimes once a month) for another 2 years, but then the guitars went to the attic.

Since about 1.5 years I have picked up my guitars again, and decided that this time things would go differently. I took lessons (which is extremely helpful getting the theory linked to the actual playing), but somehow it did not give me full joy. I came across GMC a while ago and since then I have developed myself quite a bit due to all the lessons, very valuable forum info and also the collabs. Since about 4 months I also play in a band, and am starting to write material for it smile.gif .

What do I want to achieve

I am interested in quite a few musical styles of which Jazz, Blues, Funk, Rock and Hard Rock are the most important ones. However, I would very much like to get more into other styles as I believe it will make me a better musician in the end.

In particular I am having quite some difficulties with several aspects of my playing (as compared to other parts), and I would love to improve those also in the MTP:

Lead

Sweep picking, arpeggiated alternate picking runs (at higher speeds), and in general shredding

Rhythm

Combining chords with lead lines (hybrid picking), especially developing them on my own (example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSM3FL7zUdw).

Theory

Moving from knowing all the boxes of the major/minor scales, pentatonics and some of the modes towards 'on the spot' hearing which notes to play next (basically developing my ears more).

Although I would like to be able to playing some very fast runs if required, my ultimate goal is to become a good musician, and playing speed should only be a tool to reach that goal.

Finally, I do hope I will be selected for the MTP beginners as I certainly see all the benefits that come with it. Also, the actual obligation to show your progression on a regular basis will certainly be an extra stimulation to really work hard in achieving my long term goals.

Thanks for reading this awful long application smile.gif .

This first clip is from the collab I did for Muris' Blue Note in A.

This clip is my take on Sublime's Santeria solo.

I really need to work on my rhythm and theory. I've been playing for almost 8 years now and those two aspects of my playing aren't up to speed with my lead abilities.

I'd also like to work on techniques I've put off for way too long like tapping and sweep picking. I think this is a great idea and yet another reason why I love this site!

Posted by: Toroso Jan 2 2009, 05:50 PM

I would like to take a go at this.

I want to improve everything about my playing! Lead, rhythm, theory, speed, dexterity, technique, everything.
The kind of music that interests me is a heavier blues/rock type of thing. If you could blend Zakk Wylde, Karma to Burn and ZZ Top together, that would be close to my goal. I have music in my head that I want to be able to get out and record. Below is my clip from Ivan's Christmas Rock collaboration and it's probably the best hing I've ever done.

Thanks for your consideration!

Posted by: Dreamcatcher Jan 3 2009, 05:45 AM

I'd like to be considered for the beginner mtp I have a ton of bad habits that need addressing but most of all I could use a mentor who can help me understand theory and the basics of music. Here is a quick clip I threw together in a rush hoping to meet the deadline. No backing just me hacking up Eric Johnsons tune Cliffs of Dover. Yes there are a million flaws in here but I figure if I kept rerecording ..till all the sections were perfect ..well that would take a lil time hahaha anyways dont laugh too hard please

Oh and yes I am already on that not using my pinky thing haha

Then that makes sense.

Hope I am in time to apply as a beginner on the MTP.

As the videos show I really am a virtual complete beginner and so any help, guidance and support I recieve will be greatly appreciated. These are the first ever videos I have made (I bought the cam yesterday especially for this) and so the quality isn't the best. I also quickly realised how difficult it is to play as well as you would hope whilst being aware that it is being filmed. Also its painful to see every little fault laid bare!

 MTP_SOW_Jan_o9.wmv ( 16.17MB ) : 217

 MTP_AN_Jan09.wmv ( 42.15MB ) : 324

 cage_shape.wmv ( 7.04MB ) : 212

It has taken me the past three months or so to realise that if I learn the basics such as cage patterns and some thory then playing becomes easier. I would hope that a mentor would be able to keep me on track with this.

If accepted I hope to become a much better guitarist able to hold together a half decent solo. I am keen to try out different techniques and styles and hope to develop a better understanding of theory. On thing in particular I would like to improve is my phrasing.

What can I offer in return. Well commitment and enthusiasm for sure and a determination to improve. Who knows in a couple of years I may be able to act as a mentor to beginners too.

I enjoy all types of music but really I am a rocker at heart. 1970s blues based rock is where my heart lies so I admire guitarists like Kossoff, Blackmore, Clapton, Townsend, Gilmore, Hendrix and of course Keef!! How I wish I could play like them!

Cheers!

Yeah, mine does that as well...i think pretty much the only way to fix this is to buy a really nice one...although sometimes you can sync them pretty well

Outlaw2112,
Sounds like you just need to organize your practice time and gear it towards what you want to learn, whether it be rhythm, lead, theory or whatever. Do you have just a digital camera that can record video? I tried the webcam thing to and got the same results you are describing.

I suffer from this too! Its a consequence of loving music! You have a look at something and say "wow thats cool" and then waste time learning a bit of that. Before you know it you are miles from what you were meant to be practicing!

Someone to kick you up the backside and help keep you focussed would be really useful.

I aim to try the beginner competitions and maybe even a collab to try to maintain a focus.

Persevere with the cam, your problem might just be that the frame rate (often 30 fps) is not fast enough to keep up with you!

I try to do that, i usually start out with finger exercises and picking exercises.... then ill start looking at youtube and its over... ill start learning a song or learning licks and wont stop til i perfect it, and that could take the whole night

You need to come up with a long term plan. Maybe you want to learn to play on of Muris's lessons or another awesome lesson here on GMC. Then you would come up with a practice routine that would allow you to do that. Once you accomplish that then you move on to another goal. What lesson here on GMC would you love to be able to play? I am always working on a couple of Muris's lessons it seems like. laugh.gif

I want to get into the mtp!
I now have my guitar for 2 years but I never played it that good. I always start some lesson and after 2 days I quit it.

So I dont have any skills, I can play a few songs but that's almost nothing, my technique is really bad! If you ask me to play something for a video I dont know what. I'm a real beginner. smile.gif

I want to do this because I HAVE to practice this and only if I do this I'll get better!

I played acoustic more, I can do the basics but have to work on them very good and with coaching this will go much faster.

Do you play electric? What lesson have you started and quit and why? Did you get frustrated? Not know how to break it down? Some of these lessons can be intimidating and you really need to break them down into bite size pieces. A lot of these lessons will take you months/years to master so you need to start slightly above your ability and work from there.

Jup I play electric, I've started a few lessons for example the Blues licks lesson. I didn't get frustrated but I just dont have a good discipline and if I get a mentor this will get better because I'll be forced to know them.

I think what really helps is to really try and organize your practice time. If you have 1 hour, 2 hours etc. you need to organize your time. Learning guitar is and ENORMOUS task and you need to approach it methodically. If you could play any lesson on GMC which one would it be? Look at that lesson and decide what you need to do to accomplish it and I would even suggest starting to learn it. Biggest key is to sit down and organize your time for maximum results. I spent years as a "noodler". I have made more progress in the last 5 months than the last 5 years just by organizing my time and consistently practicing. Just my 2 cents!!

I would love to join the MTP My name is Glen I am 20, I am in the military I just picked up a guitar for the first time earlier this week. I have wanted to learn guitar since I was nine but never had the money for it. I feel like I need more structure to my practicing. I have plenty of time to dedicate to learning /practice I am free from 4pm till midnight mon-friday. and allday on weekends. (not much to do on base). In the long run my goal is to learn to play metal. That doesnt mean I am not open to other styles. Some bands that I am in to are Lamb of God, Amon Amarth, Metallica, The Black Dahlia Murder, As I lay Dying, Opeth, and Unearth. Thats just a few I can go on all day but would be pointless. I would be greatly appreciative of whoever would be willing to take time out of there life to help me learn guitar. Here is a video I made after going though the power chords lesson the first day with my guitar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp9j7DcfZvE (It was out of tune my apologies.) Here are a couple of contact points to get a hold of me. E-mail [email protected]/ Aim glenwins12.

Hi any news on this yet? cool.gif

Posted by: Marek Rojewski Feb 22 2009, 06:00 PM

Well just in case it would be to late otherwise, I write my application now wink.gif

As You may know ( wink.gif ) my name is Marek. I played the guitar for few years already, but never practiced seriously/consistently. I rather learned the basic/barre chords to play and sing some songs, and also learned or tried to learn some favorite songs from tabs. Before joining GMC I was much more a classic guitar player ( so almost no guitar pick use and better skill at fingerpicking ), because when I bought my electric guitar, after few times playing on it, I concluded that I sucks horribly and will never be good dry.gif

Skill: here are links to my to latest uploads
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=24670&st=0&p=339862&#entry339862
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=24669&st=0&p=339861&#entry339861
I can play some tad more difficult lessons also.

Theory knowledge: what theory? blink.gif There are 6 strings on my guitar, pushing the string on one of the 24 frets will make the string to sound different than without pushing it...

Interest: improving at everything, I am not to excited about sweeping or tapping, but would also want to learn it a bit.

Music taste: well my favorite band is Blind Guardian. Still I love also many other bands, Metallica, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Demons and Wizards. All in all I am heavy/power/trash metal + rock + ballads lover.

Time: well really depends, there are weeks when I can work quite much, and some others when I will hardly be able to upload anything decent.

Posted by: Andrew6 Feb 24 2009, 04:45 PM

If its not too late I would like to get in this as well smile.gif .

My name is Andrew (surprise) and I am from Canada. I've been playing guitar on and off for about 3 years only really started playing within the last year. I really am starting to get serious about my playing and am currently searching for a bandmates in my area to start a group but the search is going very slow as my Musical tastes aren't very common in my area laugh.gif . I am going to structure the rest of my applications like Marek's as it was a nice concise layout laugh.gif .

Theory knowledge: I know the basics of theory i.e. the notes, what scales are, I know how they are constructed although sometimes I forget the formulas, I know where some of the notes are on the fretboard and can easily find them if I take a second to work it out. Know all the minor pentonic boxes and where the root notes are.

Interest: improving at everything, mostly composition and rhythm the lead stuff i've been working on all a long and I think I would benefit more from some phrasing, rhythm and theory the things kind of behind the scenes as opposed to light speed alt picking and sweeps laugh.gif

Music taste: This is where it gets tricky, I have diverse musical tastes. My favourite bands/Artists would inclue Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, James Brown, RHCP, Extreme, Jet, Lenny Kravitz, J.S Bach(not skid row tongue.gif ), Paginini, Mozart, any 80s hair metal, dream theater, rush, kansas, and sooo on .
I know this is a lot of different types of music but I really narrowed it down as far as I could haha

I am currently in class so I cannot post a vid, I will make one up later.
I can play Iron Maiden the trooper beginning to end ( both solos) keeping in time with the album as well as Crazy Train (studio) except there are a few hiccups while playing crazy train laugh.gif . I hope that this is some indication of skill level?

Hi, I'm new to the forum it took me a few days to get a camera and setup everything to record. Here is a sample of my playing as of right now...

As for what I'm working on and could use help in... I'd like to improve on my melodic playing, timing, and also I want to learn how to record complete covers so I can build my repertoire, I have the software but I need some guidance in programming the drums etc. Focusing more on the actual guitar playing again, I would like to improve my technique and understand more about chord progressions so I can make more interesting backing tracks...

Cheers!

Hi!

Here's my video. It's just a few riffs I've learned, but hopefully it'll give you a rough overview over how good (bad) I am.

What I would like to acheive over the coming months? I'd like to play with more accuracy and speed. I would like to develop a good technique, and some understanding of music theory (if that's covered. if not that's OK).

The style I am aiming towards is definitely metal. Bands like Megadeth, Dimmu Borgir, Ensiferum, Hieronymus Bosch (really interesting band), Judas Priest, Death etc. Metal.

Hello!

I'd like to join the MTP program too. Unfortunately, currently I can't make a video as I have to buy a new camera. My technique isn't that much to see either. I can play a great deal of open/barre chords and switch effortlessly between them, and I finished the first lesson of the pentatonics workshop with some degree of speed. I can play easy chord progression songs (Times like these acoustic, Foo Fighters) and most Nirvana stuff pretty well.

I'd like to achieve being able to do bluesy but mostly James Brown/Frusciante funky improvisations, good clean and rock rhythm playing, exotic 'chording', and playing most of RHCP's songs and one day making songs like that, too. Other styles of bands I'd like to master is Foo Fighters-esque rock, Rolling Stones stuff, and maybe some Hendrix if I will be able to manage that.

Thanks.

I'll join, here's my video of me playing Heavy Metal for Beginners 3 with a few if any mistakes. My main problems are speed, down picking and tremolo picking. I already know my music theory but would like to be tested on it or introduced to more advanced concepts. I want to eventually be able to play fast/complex metal like Morbid Angel, Cynic, Nevermore, blah blah blah... but need to be on the right track playing fun stuff without getting bored. And I really do find some exercises fun but they seem to go to nowhere for me in terms of speed.
Thanks! tongue.gif

Hello there,

I have just found out about the MTP program an I am totally amazed to see this.

Is it to late to subscribe??? I would really like to be mentored, I am going to work on a video immediately if I can still apply.

I want to practice mainly blues, and funk rock style and learn how to improvise properly.

I know I also need to work on rythm a lot

Posted by: Backfire Mar 15 2009, 10:11 AM

I feel a mentor is what I really need to improve my guitar playing. I've been playing for quite a while and felt like I've been stuck at a certain skill level.

One thing I do like a lot is solos and shredding. These are some things I would love to learn or get better at.
I plan on uploading a video later to show what I can do.

Hello! I would also be interested this mentor thing. I really need training in every aspect of playing and it would help a lot if someone told what things i do wrong. im very interested in japanese rock and jpunk. also western punk and metal music. i would be nice to cover basics and after that more advanced stuff. I hope i could also get in if it is still possible. i have played pretty long but i have stucked pretty early stuff. i hope we see on the other side. it would be nice to have pm message if im in.

Ive been playing for a year and a half but i cant seem to find the patience to actually sit down and learn a whole lesson or song. Hopefully, if i can get into the program ill become more disciplined and focus on technique and learning things like scales. Also, i would really enjoy being able to find the right tone for my playing. As you can see in the vid ive made the classic teenage mistake of focusing on speed while learning how to play, hopefully ill be able to infuse some melody(and skill) into my playing. And does it matter if my webcam isnt great?

I'll submit a video tomorrow provided my webcam gets here in the mail as it's set to. Just a show of interest... any ETA on this phase?

Well lets see I'm Eddie for those of you who don't know.. have been playing guitar for about a year now and getting completly focused and dedicated. I've always loved music, and have gotten a new found sense of self when playing guitar. I want it to be an outlet to express myself. I love blues music and would love to learn bluesy style, but not at all be restricted to it.. I love all kinds of music.. metal, rock, acoustic classical.. it all suits me in one way or another. My knowledge of theory is basic.. I've gotten through about 10-15 of andrews articles and comprehend most of it, but can't connect a lot of the knowledge and associate it in my playing. An example is pentatonic, Ivans first workshop video I can play everything smoothly up until 16th note triplets.. but have a hard time associating those pentatonic skills in my play. I know about 10-15 cover songs, and know my open chords and a decent amount about barre chords and am comfortable with them. What I would really like to do through the MTP is just improve all aspects of my play to make me a valuable guitarist. As of now I've just been playing through lessons like warming up w/ siepen, pentatonic workshop, blues soloing beginner, right hand basics, and know that if I just put in the hours of smart practice I will improve.. but what I want.. sadly.. is more! I want to eventually be the best! and knowing I'm no where close hurts! I just got a pod and webcam so I should be uploading a short video in the next couple days since I'm going out of town tomorrow. I can't wait for the harsh criticism smile.gif

is this still open? if so I would like to participate, in getting help and to evolve enough to give help!
No big show-all movie yet of me but keep an eye on the REC-board, I am trying out some ratings...

I play (and like )about everything, but still have to make some major key-improvements, especially cleanness (vibratos and tonal purity) an real understanding of how scales and chords work. oh and better speed i could use too.
I like the REC cuz it gives an indication of my physical way of playing, and it seems to be as expected, I need to improve.

So if this still is active, check

Im hoping to become a student in this program, I played guitar for about 2 years and then stopped for a couple years. Now Im abit older, wiser and very keen to get playing again.

I dont have much to show for 2 years playing, mostly because my practice back then was just jamming around the pentatonic box and learning the occassional song. But I would still say Im very much a beginner in terms of both skill and knowledge.

I know a little bit of theory, I can identify the notes on the neck (although I dont have the neck fully memorised yet so it takes me a couple seconds to work it out) and I know some basics about the major scale and constructing the more commonly used chords such as majors, minors, 7ths, minor 7ths etc.

Im into most types of music, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hendrix, RATM, Iron Maiden etc. etc. love most stuff with a nice riff or cool solo. Just want to improve my playing overall really. Learn more songs, be able to do cool solos!

I will upload a video of my playing tomorrow for you guys to see.

Thanks,
Vince.

here is video of my playing, not very good I know sad.gif

I so need a mentor after kidding myself for years all I want to play is rhythm guitar I really want to get good at solo both metal and blues but I need some serious help..Here is a video of my playing hope it works.

I would love to do a video of me playing because that would mean i could play tongue.gif But with that being said i have to learn to play first so if you can help i would love it

I need a mentor and my situation is about the same as the one in the post above me. I know how to hold the pick and how to hold the guitar and some different chords and such, but otherwise my knowledge is zero. I struggle with the difficulty 2 lessons. I am the metal/hard rock kind of guy, but sometimes I may want to play some softer stuff too. I am into bands like metallica and iron maiden. Dont know if this request will be answered since I got no video, I'll have to wait and see rolleyes.gif

still open, running a new competition at the moment, but we are needing some more entrants for the Intermediate mentor before we can continue, hopefully wont be too far away smile.gif

I would really love to join MTP. I have been playing on and off for about four years and I really want to get serious. I'm a huge Hendrix fan and i would love to get good enough to play music like that. Right now I can only butcher them lol.

I only have two videos on my youtube channel but hopefully I will have some more soon

So I'm looking for a mentor in the next time - until now I've practically no guitar experiences, so I'll work a little bit on this and then could hopefully join the MTP smile.gif

Quick Question.
Who will be mentoring us. Instructors or senior members. How are they assigned. I am not sure if this information was already available, but if yes I could not find it. Could some please clarify this.

Thanks

OK so the last post about joining the MTP programm was at May. Is there any chance to get a mentor at the moment?? I really love to be a part of this programm because i saw how many guys here have improved in this super MTP program.

Thought id throw this here as well just incase...

I just joined GMC and this was primarily the reason why so i can apply for a mentor ive been playing for a couple months and feel like im lacking direction and this sounds absolutely perfect, im pretty much a blank canvas for a instructor atm and im looking to absorb as much as i can. I am really only a beginner so i dont have a whole lot to show nor would i know what too however if chosen i would film whatever is required of me for my instructor.

Genres im into well sub genres of metal:
Thrash
Glam
Hardcore

I wouldnt mind being mentored by someone like velvet roger but whoever has been deemed worthy enough of mentor status will do for me just as long as they are hands on and know what they are talking about as i really need to get the very basics of lead and rhythm down along with some theory.

I find myself in the same situation. I have been playing for 8 months but I just cannot find my way, my improvement rate is way too slow. I used to play piano in the past but it looks like it doesn't help at all. I can read music but I don't know the trick to find the notes quickly on the fretboard.
I really like Blues....but basically I don't dislike any kind of music (well, maybe hardcore doesn't completely match my taste).

I wish I could post some videos but they wouldn't show anything but a sucker with a guitar on his hands tongue.gif

PS Sorry if there are also grammar mistakes but this is not my native language

Here are the 'few chops' that I recorded this afternoon.

I would like to meet a mentor or somebody who could help me to improve my general skills as a guitar player.
I like mostly Blues Rock and Rock in general. But I'm really interested in knowing the scales, different techniques and how to thread well!!!

Thanks everybody in the MTP,

There's a forum subscription feature that will notify you by email when a new topic is posted in whatever forum(s) you specify. I have a diagram of how to do it (from the collaboration subforum) but the feature works for ANY of the forums on GMC.

I'll see if I can dig up the image in hopes that you'll actually see this response. Here's what it looked like before:

Here's what it looks like now, NOTE: it is UNDER the list of subforums and ABOVE the list of posts in the current forum:
