Hello everyone! This is a draft of the beginning of a new song I've been working on. It's not finished yet but I was itching to do a proof of concept so I recorded it in a quickie to get a feel for it. Now I know I'm playing it sloppily and when I'm recording it for real I will be redoing everything to get it real nice and tight. I want comments about what you think about the riffs. Are they cool to your ears? Do they groove properly? Is the song to slow, is the song to fast etc.

For those of you that think the playing is so atrociously bad that you just can't stand to listen to it, salvation is here for you in the form of a guitar pro 5-tab of what I'm supposed to be playing. As an extra bonus, the tab includes parts of the song that I haven't recorded yet so feel free to give it a listen and let me know what you think of the other parts as well!

So hit me with all you've got, I'm looking forward to your comments. Oh and btw, the name of the song is a misnomer, it is not a funk song! The song grew out of a funky skank riff I came up with but that riff died somewhere along the road.

I liked the idea mate I`d like to hear it a little faster maybe, a slight drag to the riff if you know what I mean at that speed but just my opinion, but be an idea to do just to compare the two different speeds, definatly an idea well worth developing imo, nice one!

Well it sounds very nice and cool to me! Nice riffing.. It is very good for the beginning of a song..

Hey Smurkas
Its been awhile.Well my 100% honest opinion is that it's just ok.Like you said you are going to play it better and get it more tight which i think would improve it alot.Some of the riffs though sound like they would work (kinda got a rage.a.t.m sound going).Only thing i didnt really like myself was the octave bend's in between the main riffs.Not sure if ya know what im saying but the lead type bends on the last 2or3 strings.Anyway keep working on it and let us here more once you got it.I would check out the guitar pro file but i dont have gp.Also if you ever get anyother drums samples you could hook me up with let me know

I see where you're coming from Shredman. The unison bends are probably the most untight part of the whole recording which could be one of the reasons it sounds bad. Another reason could be that it just doesn't work . Oh and I'll try to hook you up with som phat beats but it will have to be after christmas cuz my schedule sucks till then.

This riff literally came out of my fingers so I just jammed out as many variations of it that I could and took the ones I liked best for the eight bars you have in the recording. I will go back to the jamming board and see if anything else that sounds cool shows up in my fingers.

Smells, I will up the BPM on the song a bit. Right now it's in 85 BPM and I will try 90 and 95 to see if that sounds better. For some strange reason all my songs end up in the region of 85-100 BPM.

Toni - I record my guitars dry straight into the computer using Guitar rig 2 as my sound card. Then I process the dry signals with Guitar rig 2 or Amplitube 2 depending on what mood I'm in that day. This time I used Amplitube 2 for the guitar sound. The guitars are overdubbed three times in the opening riff, one placed in the middle at lower volume and one on each side. When the verse guitar kicks in there's just one at first in the middle and then one on each side for the last lap. When the opening riff kicks in again it's three guitars again.

I then used Ozone on my guitar bus to widen the stereo image across the board on all frequencies. This gives that extra width you often hear on professional recordings.

The bass is played by Trilogy VST by spectrasonics for the simple reason that I suck at playing bass and Trilogy sounds so great. Trilogy is also processed through Guitar rig 2 to get abit of overdrive on the bass.

I used Addictive drums for the drums using the DW kit. I think I grabbed some funk grooves from the groove library and modified them abit for the song.

On the master bus there's a multiband compressor (LinMB), Ozone for master reverb and a limiter (L2). I'm not really sure what the individual settings are. When I do a quick recording like this one I use the presets I've made to speed things up.

Nice idea for the song man, good effort in recording it also. Try to put your main riff like a one-note riffs and speed up a little to get more funky.

Wow man, this is so cool, my head was going up and down and all over my room for the rhythm...
