GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Yet Another New Guy

Posted by: JTaylor Dec 8 2011, 04:06 AM

Hey everyone! My name is Jon Taylor and I live in central Florida, USA. I have played off and on for over 20 years and never stuck with lessons, usually because of money issues (things get that way when you have a child! laugh.gif. Well, since I never stuck with the lessons, I have never progressed beyond very simple stuff. Looked at some internet sites and was not impressed. I actually stumbled onto this site by accident and after looking through it a couple of days, I was sold. I have started all over and am going through every single lesson from the very start, starting with all of the lessons by Andrew Cockburn. Everything I have seen so far is very impressive and the price is an extreme bargain! Looking forward to progressing!

Hey Cosmin! Thanks and I did want to let you know something. Your Pillar lesson was the very first thing I looked at here and got me interested in this! So I would have to say that you are partly responsible for me joining! Maybe you will get a bonus for that? cool.gif

Hey Alex! I live in Ocala (where it is a balmy 36 degrees right now... thought I lived in Florida!). I see you're from LA. Flew into LAX twice when I was going and returning from Okinawa. Could not believe how big that city is. Glad I was in the air and not stuck in traffic!

Hi Jon and welcome GMC smile.gif

You mentioned flying back from Okinawa.. do you have family/friends there or do you go there for the Karate connection ?

Hey Ben!
To start off with, your "Thrash like Mustaine" instruction is superb! Though it is way ahead of where I am now, I have watched it several times and am looking forward when my practicing will progress to that level. Now about Okinawa, the answer there would be neither.. no family or friends there and definitely no Karate biggrin.gif ! I was in the Marine Corps and had to go there for a year. I didn't like it at all, but I got a Charvel there for $200 so that was a plus. It was so long ago that I don't even remember the model (and I have not had it in a long time) but when I got back to the States, I remember the same model was $500(US).

Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it. It's not as far ahead of you as you might think.. I'm just blundering through it all anyway (don't tell anyone !) wink.gif

Wow, interesting story ! It must have been quite weird being on such a tiny island right in the path typhoon country ! smile.gif Also you just don't imagine a place as rural as Okinawa (it's rural in my mind) as being the sort of place to find a Charvel shred machine laugh.gif
