GMC Forum _ Ben Higgins _ Intermediate Bushido Task 7

Posted by: Ben Higgins Mar 8 2012, 04:46 PM

Warriors of the intermediate group, I call you to your latest challenge ! Prepare..

Task 7 : http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Hard-Rock-Riffing/

You're gonna be tackling Sinisa's groovy-as-hell lesson this week. An opportunity to mix up riffing with some pull off licks. Watch out for the bend on that A chord. Try to time it exactly the same as the original, which is an important part of the phrasing.

So, head back into the 70's and kick some vintage guitar butt ! cool.gif

Yeah, I've actually looked at this one before but didn't learn it. Wish I had now but it will definitely be fun. Might have to crank up the ol' Octivator for this one.

Bonsoir,
yeah, that's a nice lesson. There's a lot of cool stuff here that I've never really noticed. Thanks Ben for these excellent choices.
I'm first to submit something. Once again, on the slower backing track, 55 bpm.
My left fingers are hurting me because of the bends ! dry.gif Looks like I have to work on this too...
For the "double bend" (or is it double stops ?), with the G and B strings, I use two fingers, while Sinisa uses only one. I don't have enough strength to do it properly like him. Is it important ? I plan to try it, but not today smile.gif
As always, I'm eager to ear some comments on this and learn what I have to work on.
Merci beaucoup !

Ahhh, saucisson !! cool.gif

Great, everything sound really good.. the only thing to address is making the E note clean when coming out of the double stop bend.

Yes, double stop is the right description and no, you don't have to use 1 finger. I think I would also probably use 2 fingers myself. However you did it, it sounds just right ! smile.gif

Hummm...; Why not ? laugh.gif

Thank you for your feed back Ben,
I've spent some time on it today. Here are two takes, one à 70 bpm, and the other at 80 bpm. I'm rushing things on the second one, so timing isn't tight on the fast parts. I think the 70 bpm is quite ok. But you're the boss, you tell me wink.gif

Bonne soirée !

Bonjour Dude !

Still sounding good.. even the 80bpm version is pretty much there wink.gif

Still getting a noisy E string though, after the double stop bends. I think you might be accidentally catching an open A string or D string when going from the double stop to the E. It's probably your pick doing it smile.gif

Great timing though, keep at it.. it's sounding good.

Hey Ben! Here's my go at the Hard Rock Riffing task. This one was deceptively tough. When I first started I learned the actual notes pretty fast and when I thought I had the rhythm I went ahead and recorded. When I played it back I actually laughed out loud at how terrible the timing was. laugh.gif I realized I kept wanting to charge ahead of the beat and had to try and keep bringing myself back. That slow, walking beat is actually really tough to stay with.

Veeeeery nice !! I really like your staccato approach to playing, with the extra muting. It gives a new dimension smile.gif

I've got nothing to offer.. you're too good ! biggrin.gif

Hey DF, that's not bad at all my friend smile.gif

Yeah, it's pretty common to find bends difficult when you're closer to the nut because the string tension is harder there.. it's good practice for your fingers though wink.gif
