Epic Metal Beginner Solo, Lesson By Ben Higgins |
|
Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.
The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hi mate, good job with this lesson.
I think that you are very close to master this one, and that the main thing to improve is your vibrato technique, and a bit your bending. Your vibrato is not bad, but it's not consistent, sometimes it's regular and sometimes not, so you need to put your focus on it on the next days of practice. It would be easier for us to check your playing if you put your guitar louder on the mix, so please try it on future REC takes. Keep on the good job! -------------------- My lessons

Congratulations on submitting a new REC take!
First of all, I like your sound and the fact that you are micing your amp. The tone you got is very similar in character to one Ben used in the lesson. Your playing feels very solid and precise. Timing is good and there is no tendency to rush. To me your vibrato is far from bad but it is good that you have identified your weak spots on your own and that you are working on it. I'd suggest that you stick with this lesson just a bit more and try to emulate the vibrato Ben uses on the longer notes. Try to get the speed and width (how far you bend string up and down) of it, I think you are almost there with it. Another point to focus on would be bending and then adding vibrato to that note. This is far more difficult of course as you need to keep a smooth vibrato and bending to the correct pitch at the same time. Check out video parts 6-9 in this lesson : https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bending-Ballad/ ...you'll find some cool bending exercises in there which you could work on. Overall you have shown that you can play the piece note for note while keeping it smooth and in timing which is very important, so those (vibrato + bending) are just techniques which will come into place over time. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net
