I was gonna wait and post next weekend after I had it cleaned up but I can just re-record it. Maybe this will help anybody who might be stuck on this one. smile.gif I took a lilttle bit different approach than Emir suggested. On the A5-E5 section I went with "A Ionian and E mixolydian" rather than "A dorian and E minor".....just sounded better to my ear. On the C5-D5 section I went with C lydian and D major pentatonic. Then I went back to "A Ionian and E mixolydian". Let me know what you guys think. smile.gif

I have some bad news, Emir!

I was going to record something today, but I absolutely cannot find my Pandora PX4D. I think I might have left it at my parents house. Unfortunately they've been at work, when I've been home, I've been at work, when they've been home/asleep, so I haven't had the oportunity to ask them yet. Even if I have left it there, I'm not surely I'll be getting it untill after the 26th.

Here's my take!

The first one in the list contains some reverb and a pretty strong delay - I finally managed to send the a dry signal separately to my DAW while I monitored the "wet" one, but in this file I exported the tone with the delay and reverb. The other two files contain the dry tone with and without backing.

I guess this was one of my most difficult collabs that I participated in... rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif but thanks for the opportunity and special thanks to Monte who requested the backing

Ive got some serious problems with the scale switching:X Can't do it that fast:DAaah wait.

So It's G major (for the E minor) And G Lydian & Mixolydian for the C And D? If so, I think I can do it:DAh yes , sounds pretty cool now:D

How do I figure out a "relative major"? Say, You've got E mixolydian, which has the relative major of A . How do I know that? ( I read this example on a youtube backing track's video)

Scale switiching doesn't mean you need to jump to a different position. eg. if you're playing C lydian from position VIII on the fretboard then to switch to E mixolydian, you can stay around the same position by playing either C# phrygian or B dorian.
Easy way to figure out relative major or minor -
For a major key, relative minor is three semitones lower (C major - rel min = Am)
For a minor key, relative major is three semitones higher (G minor - rel maj = Bb major)

Relative keys share the same key signature

Here be my effort.
I struggled finding the right groove and feel for this and left it right until the last minute to come up with something. Fortunately once I found decided which mode/feel to use I got into it, but that was the most difficult thing - try to decide what I preferred. Also, I thought that with a major/mixolydian quality this should resolve on Amaj so I ended it with that good old A power chord.
If I get any better ideas and have the time to record them, I'll update my take. If not I hope this will do ;p Great backing track btw

EDIT: After following some of the feedback for previous collabs I noted that a mono track for the guitar would be better, so here it is (last chord also deleted):

Ok Emir,
Here's my take.
I've been struggling with the sound quality of my final mixes from Sonar. The "clarity" of the mix is much better within Sonar, then no matter what I mix down to even before converting to MP3 (24bit, 44100, or even 32bit 88200) something gets lost. In the resulting wav file, the reverb and delays sound boomy, and I loose "crispness" (probably some highs). Then when I go to MP3, it gets only sligtly worse. It seems likes most of the losses are when going to .wav from Sonar. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. If you have any pointers for final mix, it would be great.

As for the playing, I'm not 100% satisfied with this. Partially due to the tone, but also partially because my legato is kind of sloppy sounding. Let me know what I should be working on to clean this up. It doesn't sound too bad when you bury it in chorus, auto-wah, delay and reverb though! tongue.gif huh.gif

Attached File  20090425_Satch_Collab_wbt.mp3 ( 1.3MB ) Number of downloads: 168

Attached File  20090425_Satch_Collab_nobt.mp3 ( 1.3MB ) Number of downloads: 188

Attached File  20090425_Satch_Collab_nobt_noeff.mp3 ( 1.3MB ) Number of downloads: 132

P.S., I tried to make the one with no effects above a mono mix. Still the size of the file came out the same. I suspect that it is mono, but the same data is present on right and left tracks (so effectively a stereo mp3 file).

Would love to have a lesson on that backing track as well. Awesome!

Jim.

Here ya go Emir....I would have liked to clean it up a little but I am in the middle of switching DAW's so I won't be able to. For your next collab though I should be able to do some step recording instead of having to do everything in one take. Thanks again for doing this backing for me Emir....YOU ROCK!!! \m/\m/
