UPGRADING TO GUITAR PRO 6 (Not Free But Worth Looking at )

I've started creating GUITAR PRO files to go with my lessons and now There is a version of Guitar Pro that works with the Fretlight Guitar. So you can see the notes light up on the neck and hear what's being playing by the software. I really wish this was around when I was starting out. It's not for everyone, some folks are offended by it. But I'm all for anything that gets you to "better" quicker.

Here is a video showing some of the features. If you don't have a Fretlight guitar, Guitar Pro 6 is still a killer upgrade. It's well worth getting.

Well done! Audacity is a very handy little audio app/editor. It's not as full featured as REAPER but it's not meant to be a DAW.

P.S. IMPORTING CUSTOM PRESETS IN TO GUITAR RIG 4.

UPDATE:

PROS: This plugin is very flexible and the core engine sounds great. Also, wads of presets and gear types available.

CONS: This is where the FREE version falls apart. The bits that come with the free version are so limited that it's tough to make half decent presets on your own. To be honest, GUITAR RIG FREE is simply better, IMHO. This is worth a download, but until you buy some virtual amps through the IK store interface (which is why the released it this way) it's just not much in the way of being impressive or useful.

FREE PLUGINS! (From VOXENGO)

For those of you who have made it to the stage of recording where you are working with "Plugins" in your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation Software - Like REAPER), here are some killer FREE plugins from Voxengo. The TUBE WARMER is a great plugin and puts warmth back in to tracks that may sound a bit to "digital".

If you are still new to home recording and words like plugin, daw, etc. are a bit of a mystery, by all means take the plunge and download reaper. It's a very professional DAW and highly compatible and increasingly popular among musicians. It's easy to get stuck using whatever software came with whatever hardware you happen to buy. Try to fight that if you can, as it will restrict your ability to work with others and collaborate when they are using software you have never touched.

Here is the link to the FREE PLUGINS!

I have to say that personally I would not use the 'extras' in the advanced/pro in a routine mastering session.

Most just aren't suitable for routine mastering with the exception of the EQ and dither. Personally we have better EQs anyway and a range of dithers and even if we didn't you can get better for less than the package price. Dynamics - rarely use a multiband as broadband is more than good enough and less likely to screw up the mix. Rarely need to add/change reverb, virtuallly never use maximisers/exciters and if you need to adjust the stereo image you can do it with standard tools. Vector scopes, spectrum analysers, meters and so on - learn to listen to what you are doing rather than watch some scope on a screen. So even at the special introductory offer price I just don't think it's worth it for anyone interested in mastering.

The whole marketing of this as 'Pro' mastering suite is laugh.gif . $600-$1000 would buy you a lot of professional mastering. $200 for the normal version may be ok for someone doing bedroom 'mastering' and wants to learn something but that is about it IMHO.

Posted by: Todd Simpson Nov 12 2011, 02:58 AM

I have to agree that the pro version is not the way to go. Maybe it's right for somebody, but it does seem crazy pricey and sort of a "wha?". But I am STOKED to see a new version of OZONE smile.gif The standard plugin is only a couple hundred bux (only) which is a killer value.

As you mentioned for home recording "bedroom mastering" it's really hard to beat what this one plugin brings to the table. If folks are mastering for release, they should send their tracks to you to be honest. If not you personally, a mastering engineer they know and trust. But for demos, song work, etc., things not intended for a "Hard Launch" where there is little or no budget, this thing RAWKS!
