New Guitar Purchase Question Options

Okay,

So I've not been playing guitar an awfully long amount of time, and even less so lately as I've just got myself a job as web developer at the UK's largest web marketing firms - so times are busy!

Ergo, needless to say - I want to get back into playing a lot more seriously and will be getting back with the group which disbanded a little under a year ago.

Now, my ability thus far is about here:

So in comparison to you all - not that great, I'm sure!

I wanted to get another guitar to kind of give me reason to play some more and also because I love collecting a plethora of guitar types.

The current one I'm using is the one in the video. Which is a schecter C-1 custom.

Thankfully due to the new job position I have literally a few £k to spend per month on a guitar, so something around say, £1.5k, £2.5k.

I was thinking Parker, Music Man, etc.

Could anyone give me a few ideas / directions on a decent step up from the Schecter C-1 Custom using JB, JB pickups?

I certainly don't see any evidence of bad playing in that video.

Or Maybe a PRS (I'm not a fan of them but many are)

I've got a Tyler Burning Water 2K and you can get a few of the Studio Elites around your top end (the necks are awesome but they are pretty fat, so not for you if you like a thin neck) http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/premier/?brandname=Tyler

Cheaper maybe the Musicman Axis, Washburn N4, Ibanez

You really have a lot of choice with your budget, it's a dilemma chosing but a nice one to have!!!!

Hey man! I like your playing! If it was up to me I'd go for a Music Man I've put my hands on the Steve Morse model which is killer, but not necessarily a metal guitar.

If you're into 7 strings, maybe the Petrucci model?

First decision would be Trmelo or Non-tremelo. For that kind of budget I'd suggest high end Ibanez's like the Jem or JS 1200, 1600. Jackson Soloist, Washburn N4. (All Trem Models)
Jackson, Ibanez Prestige, Hamer, PRS, Patrick Eggle or maybe think about something more 'boutique' from the likes of:-
Jaden Rose. Amazingly nice guy who builds amazingly nice instruments!!
ViK Guitars. Another amazing Luthier. Top end of your budget.
Daemoness Guitars. Again, stunning workmanship.

Let me know if you have a set criteria and I'll come up with a more directed suggestion!

Right chaps. well - firstly, thanks for the feedback for starters. I am definitely after a non FR guitar but something with a Trem at least, was thinking Wilkinsons but I hear they aren't 'top notch' for what I'm willing to pay, could anyone confirm this?

RE an earlier post, I'm definitely into thinner, smooth necks - that could possibly be the fact I've been stuck with the C-1 for quite some time now and have grown a fondness for it albeit a relatively middle end guitar!

PRS use Wilkinson V50's on some of their models, as do quite a few higher end guitars. I've never had a problem with them, especially in conjunction with a set of Locking Tuners. The only time I've had an issue setting one of these up was on a mid-range Tanglewood. My client couldn't afford a set of Sperzels and so I installed a locking Nut that I had kicking around in the Workshop, sorted the problem.
The other system to look at is the Kahler Flyer, you can still do all the extreme diving but it's a bit more stable than a Floyd. It's a surface mounted unit and so isn't dependant on getting the balance between strings and springs perfect! Gerry Cantrell uses this model on his signature G&L's.

How about a PARKER? Parker Guitars start at around $700 and have very thin necks and non FR trems and are AMAZING instruments. Krist Dahl (The great Father of GMC) plays one himself.

Cheers guys for all the feed back going to take a trip to the guitar guitar store in London today and try them out. Unfortunately It seems very difficult to get hold of a Parker guitar in the UK (could be wrong) but as I know of no place that stocks them so I can try it out I'll be checking out the guitar guitar store first then probably seeing where it goes from there on in.

I would suggest Gibson this is something you can't go wrong with and it will always have a good value if you will decide to sell it!

I would say Gibson is something you can go very wrong with at the moment.

There is a lot of concern over quality control and build changes (multi-piece necks)
