Has anyone of you checked out the new Opeth album? It is very melodic and progressive. No growling vocals like last time. I didn't enjoy Heritage so much to be honest but this one is different and I like it so far. What do you guys think??

I honestly dont know yet. I really liked 'cusp of eternity', I heard that a while back and thought I'd buy the album on the strength of that track but since the full album streams came out and I listened to the rest of it...... mellow.gif Im not so sure.
Im usually okay with proggy stuff but I kinda got lost a few times listening to this album. Im sure its just too clever for me. I'll need a few more listens before I think about buying this one.
My inital thoughts on hearing it were.... Didnt like track 1, liked track 2, liked track 3 but it lost me towards the end.... then I struggled with the rest of the album and got lost in the the 'Yes' like progressions. huh.gif

Not really feeling this one yet, although there are some brilliant moments. Maybe it will be a grower. Since Watershed, Opeth albums are all over the place stylistically… they used to have this perfect balance that I feel they lost. They actually used to be my favorite band but I think they peaked for me between Still Life and Blackwater Park. Never got into the huge amount of Mellotron and keyboards they use to create their atmosphere nowadays. Still a good band worthy of listening to, I'm just so biased to the older material like many fans. smile.gif
