Hi Gmc

I have a dilemma:

I am about to exchange my Gibson 'black beauty' Les Paul Custom Attached Image

for a musicman John Petrucci, full options Mystic Dream (with Piezo Dimarzio HH hard case)

Attached Image

Attached Image

The LP is from 1986 my first good guitar the JP is from 2009.

I need to pay EUR 500,-- extra for this exchange.

What would be your choice?

regard
Robert

Well I am not sure what your LP is worth but I know the Music Man JP goes used for about 883 euros in canada and new for about
1,500 euros so If you are trading your LP 500 euros seems a little much. But I have played the JP music man and it was an awesome guitar ! I was at a music store playing the humbuckers through a Mesa boogie Express 5:25 and the piezo through a Orange tiny terror and it sounded amazing smile.gif And the neck feels super nice.

Both a beautiful and different guitars... I would keep the les paul and get the other one, but it depends on you economical possibilities and also in what you want to play.

I have a Music man "Luke" that I like more than the LP.

I think the JP I will also like more than the LP,
I have always been wanting for a JP now I have a change by this deal. Buying 2 handed would cost me approx 1600-1800 Eur

Ok, this will sound very trivial but I would go for the guitar that feels and plays better, that suits your style more.. So it depends I guess tongue.gif

Good point.

the JP neck I prefer more than the LP.

also + points for the MM JP:

Piezo, whammy bar, Dimarzio pick ups, Mystic dream finish (only this option is eur 450)

+ points for LP:
- The LP is equipped with a Roland Gr20 Guitar synth that I have to sell separatly. it's a LP Gibson, my first guitar (1986)

One thing I'd seriously think about though is that the LP will probably hold it's price and increase in value more than the Petrucci. Sell something else instead like your car or your house biggrin.gif

I'd hold out. Keep your Les Paul.

If you can, save a little bit of change here and there for that JP.

It might have just been me, but those images didn't show the guitar like it was in such great condition. Maybe find one a little cheaper or in better condition?

I would hold on to that LP if you like how it sounds!
JP guitar is very interesting indeed - but it is also a signature model. Maybe you can find a similar spec Music Man which is not signature model - it will probably cost less.

Its just me - I don't like the idea of those signature guitar unless you are a huge fan and would love to have it for that fact alone. smile.gif

Music man only ha ssignature models: JP, Lukather, Morse, Lee, EvH etc. But I can also trade with a EvH quilted music man with paying 400 eur and a JP6 colour gray and same options but more chips and dips without paying cash.

the GMC community are LP lover the votes to keep the LP are in favour : maybe i will take that advice
