Actually, more like 4 years. He said "at least 3 more years" a year - 18 months after the unit came out. And yes, there are plenty of firmware updates with new features and improvements that are free, as stated before.
But you make a good point, if you want the newest and greatest all the time, then you will have to buy the new unit when it comes out. But hey, I plan to start saving for the AxeFX III a year from now for when it comes out anyways.
