Do you want to be a Teacher as well as a Student? We have some awesome instructors here at GMC, but it doesn't stop there - we also have some very talented and advanced students as well. Everyone has something that they can teach to others. Different people have different perspectives and 10 people will teach the same skill in 10 different ways - one of these ways may work for someone that has missed the point in the 9 other ways! The idea of this board is to generate a community of Student Instructors that produce high quality lessons to pass on their insight to other GMC students. The title "Student Instructor" is deliberately ambiguous, it means 2 things: * A GMC Student who is an instructor of other GMC students * Someone who is learning to be an Instructor The second meaning reflects the fact that we will be keeping a close eye on how this board develops, and in addition to providing quality new lessons, it is possible that the very best Student Instructors may be admitted as a full GMC instructor if their work warrants it - in he future we hope to have some home-grown instructors on GMC! Quality is of paramount importance here. Video lessons must follow the exact same guidelines as the pro lessons on GMC in order to qualify for entry into the board, all submitted lessons from Student Instructors will be pre approved by the moderating team in order to keep the standards and quality as high as possible. As an addition, audio only entries may also be submitted, but apart from the video the guidelines will still need to be adhered to, the solos or riffs you are trying to teach must still be played by yourself, with a breakdown of the lesson (tabs & slowed down versions) with additional material to aid learning must be supplied, a thrown together GP5 file is not going to cut it. Effort is rewarded at GMC and Student Instructors can expect to receive recognition and respect from the rest of GMC for their efforts, consistent high quality achievers may eventually qualify as GMC Instructors as described above. Student Instructors will also get a badge under their Avatar after their first few lessons are approved. ** please see additional guidelines referencing the SI Avatarr** IMPORTANT: The lessons may only contain original material written by the instructor. If you are not sure how to upload your lesson to the forum? See the example lesson. The Student Instructors need your feedback so that they can improve their lessons- to be more rewarding/pedagogical for you. Constructive critisism is very much welcome - tell them what you liked/disliked about their lesson so they can do better next time! An additional note for Student Instructors: It will be better for you to upload your video files in the following formats avi,mpg,mov and wmv, this way most people will be able to view your lessons. A note for people having problems viewing lessons, try downloading VLC Player here http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ a viewer with many supported platforms .... windows mac, linux etc. If you still can't open the video after having downloaded VLC player - be sure to first download the video you are trying to view, then make sure the filename is filename.wmv (or .avi or .mpg or .mov) not filename.php . Then open the file with VLC player. **Additional guidelines (added 14/06/2008) A Student Instructor Badge will be placed in a members profile once they have submitted 3 video lessons or 5 audio/written lesson that meet the above criteria. In addition, to maintain the SI status a Student Instructor will need to be posting lessons on a regular basis, this will be reviewed on a two monthly basis. In this two month period a Student Instructor will need to have posted either 2 video lessons or 4 audio/written lessons. There is of course some flexibilty to these guidelines, members producing lessons should contact either myself or Andrew Cockburn if they are having any technical issues or holidays etc that may mean that they cannot submit the amount of lessons in the two months period. Wow ! This seems really demanding both skillwise and timewise ! I guess I'll need to get more confident recording before starting my career as a Student Instructor ! Very informative guidelines though !
