GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ How Heavy Is Your Gear That You Use On Stage?

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Dec 28 2011, 06:10 PM

Here's an interesting one? Did you ever measure, or know approximately how much all your live gear is weight? smile.gif That includes guitar with case, pedalboards, cables, amp, cab, whatever you carry.

I don't know the exact weight but my Marshall JVM head is the heaviest head I've ever carried ! It makes you feel like your elbow sockets are about to disintegrate and your brain is going to explode !

Having said that, I also own a Peavey Ultra, which is also on the weighty side ! wink.gif

Add to that, is the 4X12 cabinet, which never seems to get any easier to carry.. no matter how many times I do it !! dry.gif

The gear is certainly not looking very attractive after the gig biggrin.gif

Posted by: Sinisa Cekic Dec 28 2011, 11:00 PM

Just about 10 kilos, + extra 1 if I want to carry acoustic smile.gif

My own weight is up 5 kilos since September! (and I was not underweight before)

That's about the weight of my gear too 5- 10 kilos

(it was a lot heavier when I played bass)

Man I don't know how heavy it is but I think around 20lb only my pedalboard my guitar is hollow so it's pretty light and I have a few amps that are not super heavy but still have some weight! I am driving to all my gigs so my car is definitely making my life easier!!!!

Normal Rig is about 35-40 Kgs!! Sometimes more with a couple of spare Guitars or 2 Amp set-up!!

I remember the time when I was lugging Marshall TSL601 combo around that weights 25KG alone, and it had single top handle. Pedalboard packed with stomps and wah, two guitars, and two bags with cables, mic, stands etc.. That was impractical -.-

My rig is pretty light. A 4U rack back with my Axe Fx Ultra and GC Pro and cables in it. I do have a Mackie Powered Monitor that is pretty heavy, but still compared to my Hot Rod Deville 2x10 and NYC Pedalhead pedalboard, I'm pretty lucky weight wise

hahaha I have no idea! but guitar + pedalboard + head + 4x12 cabinet together are so heavy!

Gibson Les Paul Custom - 5kg
backup guitar - 3 kg
Iron Pedal Board with pedals - 5 kg
4 long cables - 1 kg
Marshall 4x12 - 40 kg
Peavey 6505 head - 22 kg
misc - 5kg

...all in all I got to carry over 70 kg of equipment into a club for a live show

that's quite a lot!

For big gigs I use usually a head and cab so that's pretty heavy, but for smaller just my trusty POD x3 and guitar, so about 7-8kilos?

My 2x12 combo alone is about 29K.
It's a back breaker - need to get a road case with wheels biggrin.gif

err pretty heavy when I play bass!
My bass rig is about 75 kilos - 12 x 15, 2 x 10 + 400 watt head.
Allow + 10 kilos for the bass / pod / pedal board.

So, about 85 kilos all in!
I didn't include the weight of the sack barrow I have to take with me to shift the 2 x 15...

Am selling this monster for obvious reasons biggrin.gif

Man - this is what is called "A drummer intimidating bass rig!".
Very cool configuration (2x15 + 2x10) tone wise, though bulky.

Is that a Warwick head up there?

Posted by: Frederik Jan 3 2012, 09:01 PM

heavier than Meshuggah

Yep, that's a Pro Fet IV. They're really nice heads, very versatile.
I see from your profile that you also like Victor Wooten, will have to check out some of your lessons smile.gif

Brave creatures are drummers smile.gif I have one joke to add to the drummers:

A guy walks into a shop.
"You got one of them Marshall Hiwatt AC30 amplificatior thingies and a Gobson StratoBlaster geetar with a Fried Rose tremulo?"

"You're a drummer, aren't you?"

"Duh, yeah. How'd you know?"

"This is a travel agency." cool.gif

Posted by: TesttubeMammoth Jan 4 2012, 07:21 PM

Man, I really want a Gobson Stratoblaster now. They sound awesome.
