Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: John Petrucci Style Melodic Solo 2 by David Wallimann

Hey guys, I was experimenting with a hotter sound as usual for this awesome Petrucci lesson. The next day I heard myself it's a little overcooked but , hey .... here it is. Sorry for the intonation problems on my JS too. I'm struggling a little with it but will try to fix it. Grtz, Nico

Hey Nico, nice to hear another take from you smile.gif

Firstly, I really like the tone.. I think you handle it very well and you make it sing very well with your vibrato.

Although I've noticed you're still doing that naughty thing I told you about.. pushing the G string upwards when doing vibrato.. remember, for all the lower strings, including the G, you'll get more control if you do vibrato downwards towards the floor.. for the B & high E it's ok but try to reform your habits smile.gif

For the picked runs, your synchronisation is good but to improve things even more try to reduce the amount of movement that your fretting hand makes. Run through those bits without a metronome just to concentrate on lightness of touch and relaxed movement. Imagine that you're miming playing the guitar and you're not really touching the strings, just moving the fingers. Then apply this same lightness of movement when you're actually practising the runs.

Your playing is getting really, really good... youre going to be a master of emotive rock ballads soon !! cool.gif

Excellent advices from Ben, I agree 100%. Bending/vibrato should be more even and precisely in pitch, and picking on faster bits needs to be precisely in time (although tone is there, you are on the right track).

One more important thing, G string is very out of tune, you should double check tuning before each recording, saves a lot of trouble later on.

Hi mate!! I like your take. The new tone sound very in the style of Petrucci. The take has a really good feeling, good vibrato and phrasing. The most important thing to fix here are the fast passages where you have timing problems. Isolate those ideas and work over metronome!
