You ever stop and say... "If I could have this amp I would be done buying amps forever"?

I MAY have already found mine... I like my NOS Blues Junior so much I have yet to hear an amp I like more. I still wanna play around with some Fender Twins but that is the only thing I can think of that might impress me more. What is your final amp? Do you already own it? Or will you never find it you think? I wanna know!

I'm not really sure someone ever finds the perfect anything, there is always that nag to buy another. At least I get that. laugh.gif

Yeah, I figure a lot of players feel as you do swing. But some of us still dream of some "ultimate" amp or rig. That's what I want people to share. biggrin.gif

I'm trying to find exactly that with my amp goal thread tongue.gif There may yet be one more after that amp, but I'm trying to make this one the "perfect" one.

What does the NOS part mean, by the way?

Posted by: Pavel Dec 1 2007, 09:31 AM

Will have to try loads of amps to decide which one. But also a solution can be "Kulik Amp" from Germany, the guy who does custom made amps - that way you can have your own sound the way YOU like it wink.gif

At the moment I would say a Bogner Ecstacy, but I have never played one, only heard clips. On the other hand, maybe I'll end up building my perfect amp smile.gif

Posted by: Understudy Dec 1 2007, 03:10 PM

If I could afford the Mesa triple rectifier my search would quickly end. Since I cannot afford it, nor do i have use for that much power I have settled for a Carvin Belaire with the matching 2x12 cab. 50 watt all tube combo that would give me a 50 watt amp pushing 4x12's. I have never played the amp but I have searched many sound clips of it and it is a warm, beautiful sounding set up. Oh well since I don't have the $920 bucks for that yet either, I will just keep dreaming smile.gif

My new-year amp dream: Bogner applied his mastery to every aspect of the Line6 HD100 design and construction

My ultimate wet amp dream: As infinite as the universe, as deep as our souls, the Bogner ECSTASY allows the mortal to travel these roads...

NOS = New Old School

It means they took the basic Blues Junior and added a vintage C12N Jensen Speaker to it in lieu of the cheaper speaker that the junior comes with. They also added tweed to the body and lacquered it for vintage ruggedness and cool looks.

NOS in tube terms also means "New Old Stock" - much sought after tubes that were made in the heyday of tube manufacture and never used. So they are new in ther sense they were never used but old in the sense that they have been sitting on a shelf for 50 years or so.

(Not particularly relevant to the conversation above but I thought I'd mention it just in case anyone was confused! )

My dream amp would be a mix of a peavey 6505 and a Marshall jcm800.

Cool! When the amp came out, there were no samples unfortunately...great they updated the site! smile.gif

I would really like to have a Marshall 200W full stack. Well, it will come in time off course smile.gif

Yeah, there were a bit slow on that part smile.gif

My dream amp, I belive I own it. H&K Switchblade, it does all I want and a little bit more. It fulfills all my needs of modern hi gain amp, british or american, brit crunch and a clean channel that's great sounding.
It's especially Marshall like on the british hi-gain channel. Their sound staff really did wonders on the pre programmed sounds and it's responding really well to the guitar you've got. A strat and a LP will sound completely different and this is the first amp where I can appreciate a singlecoil strat more than humbuckers... and coming from me that's a good judgement. biggrin.gif
It's suitable for my situation now where I can enjoy many different sorts of sound, the day I want to specialize on a Marshall or Mesa sound that will maybe be another story. But as of right now I'm very very happy with the Fender, vintage Marshal, Hi gain Marshall, Mesa like sound I can get from it. Yes, it does a pretty good Fender though it's equipped with EL34's, I'm rather surprised myself. You'd get different characteristics from the 6L6 tubes, but then again if I'd go there I'd sacrifice the versatility for specializing myself. I havn't tried to make it a hi-gain ENGL yet... don't know whether that's doable or not.

Right now what music is about for me is rehearsing and performing live. If i was in a situation where I did a lot of studio work or just bedroom playing I would probably look for something else. (don't need 100W in the sudio/bedroom)

You are absolutely correct. NOS actually does mean "New Old Stock" but since some companies like Fender have used the NOS moniker on brand new products I thought "New Old School" fit the idea of what they were trying to do better. cool.gif

An amazing concept if you think about it. I have read quite a bit about this. Although the JJ tubes you can get now are pretty awesome. I bought some high gain 6L6's from Eurotube who individually test and match them up and they sound great. They blow the stock tubes in my amp away.

nobody has mentioned SOLDANO, I'm suprised. I'm a Marshall fan myself but would love to play through some of these riggs!

+1 for the mesa hmm Mesa

Posted by: Toni Suominen Dec 8 2007, 11:03 PM

I would have to buy like 10 amps before I could fullfill my amp dreams! biggrin.gif

Posted by: David.C.Bond Dec 8 2007, 11:17 PM

I've played many different amps including most Mesas, Marshalls etc and have decided my two favourite amps are:

Krank Revolution
Peavey 6505 (or the 5150, which was the original)

Which is why I'm trying to save my pennies to buy one of them, when I decide which is better!

Posted by: Smikey2006 Dec 9 2007, 12:34 AM

My Dream Amp was my Krank Revolution Head and Cab. which when i bought i loved (and still love) But i found this company. Genz Benz they make high quality all american Amplifiers.. and i really like them.. im not buying anymore equiptment until i really need it tho

You have a Krank Revolution? blink.gif
Can I rob your house? tongue.gif

How much did you pay for it then? Would you say the Genz Benz amps are better?

I was looking at some Genz-Benz amps, they sounded pretty good from sound files and look interesting on paper, have you tried them or anything?

NOS: Nitrous Oxide System. Give your amp the boost it needs! huh.gif

I sort of have my dream amp now, and it took many years to finally find it. What qualifies as a dream amp obviously varies from person to person, so let me first say why this is my dream amp before I say what it is.

I wanted:

1) A TUBE AMP for the dynamics and penetration (my solid state amps were always drowned out by the other guy's tube amp)

2) An amp that would deliver very high gain (psycho gain) that was punchy, and has tight bottom end for very clear intricate rhythm work. It also had to be a good amp for being able to deliver a variety of solo tones ranging from sparkling clean to (again) psycho gain.

3) I wanted the option of high gain at bedroom sound levels. I didn't want to HAVE to use a powersoak.

4) Channels: I LIKE channels... I like tweaking them and switching frequently when I play, just for all the tonal variations. I wanted to be able to switch all channels remotely, and I also wanted to be able to program them with switchable tone shaping options. This amp has FIVE discrete channels with a multitude of switchable tone shaping features. Also, one of the channels is a complete bypass of the amp's preamp. This allows me to connect any preamp I want, and the amp will treat it as it's own preamp.

5) Connectivity: I wanted one amp that would serve more as a nerve center, with lots of connection options. The list is too long here, read about it yourself on the ENGL web site if your are interested.

The amp that covered all of this and more is the ENGL Special Edition E670. Mine is the EL34 version. Like I said before, I'm not really worthy of it, BUT I will grow into it. Finally, I wanted quality... this amp (knock on wood) seems like it would last a long time, as it is really built like a tank.

The huge downside to this amp (the only downside so far) is the cost. I'm not here to brag or sway anyone this way or that. The bottom line is that this amp delivers exactly what I have wanted for many years. The other bottom line is that it costs a small fortune.

Oh ya, and a few noted users are Steve Morse, Vinnie Moore, and Marty Friedman, but there are many more.

A.
