Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: I Got Rhythm Guitar 2 - Palm Muting by Joe Kataldo

I promised to do a take each week, so here is this weeks REC from me. And I put on new strings and tuned my guitar :-)

I know my palm muting could be better, especially at the G B E strings, so I'll do a lesson with these involved soon. But today it will be basic rythm and muting.
It's good practice for me to record, so I have to stop playing sloppy.

I experimented with tone, and maybe it's not that good recording with a cameraphone, because it sounds a bit different than live I think. Maybe this take has too much distortion/noise?

Different distortion

Almost no distortion

Edit: I use bridge pick ups for this!

Hey Ulrik, I think this is pretty good. Your timing was a bit off near the start but it got better as the tune progressed. It's quite a difficult rhythm to keep time to.

I'm not sure what guitar software you're using but it sounds like a processed tone that doesn't mute very well. I've played through tones like that and they don't seem to respond very well to picking hand dynamics.

Considering the tone, I think you did well with the muting. smile.gif

Hi Ulrik! It's cool to find many REC takes from you. It seems that you are really working hard. Congrats mate! wink.gif
The take is good, it's true what Ben says about the tone, it sound so weak (What are you using?) and with too many drive. This makes the Palm muting a bit noisy. The rhythm is ok, you look a bit uncomfortable yet, but with some time you will feel more relaxed and then you should add more groove to it.

Not bad smile.gif ! The guitar sounds a bit plastic and think that you have problem with the proper damping. Small variations in rhythm, as if you were too pinched. What is important and productive is to continue to record it, I'm sure that we can expect great shots soon !!
Keep rocking Ulrik wink.gif

Good job! Your timing is off when you are switching notes also I can hardly hear the backing track! Spend a little bit more time with it and you will sound great!
