Hello everyone.

Just to celebrate the new arrival and share it with you guys here.

I got this one, first of all, because I got a really good deal on it.. I ended up paying $1700 (us). I bought it from a guy who just bought it back in july 2010 for $2700 (us), so it didn't matter if I had to borrow the money or not. I just had to get this guitar at this amazing deal..

The new guitar is going to complement my first guitar: The Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul VOS, which I am absolutely happy about as well.

Anyways, say hello to my standard.

The guitar is a Gibson USA Les Paul Standard HoneyBurst made in 2009.
Gibson has made some modifications to this particular guitar.

  • *It has Grover locking tuners
  • *a lock for the guitar cable so you dont rip it out if you accidentally step on the cord
  • *you can "lock" the bridge and tailpiece at your specified height, so you dont accidentally move it during string changes
  • *the neck is asymmetrical, meaning it's fatter at the top, while thinner in the bottom, giving me an almost 1958 style neck in the top, while remaining slim in the bottom for the lightning fast killer licks (dont know about it tho since i'm not lightning fast)
  • *has BurstBuckers Pro 1 and 2 pickups
  • *is chambered which makes it a *LOT* lighter.
  • *dunlop strap locks

Notice the flags in the background.. I go into great lengths to celebrate a new member of the family (haha.. not.. my daughter just turned 2 years old.. can you guys believe how times just fly by?)

The build quality of this guitar is what you can expect from a gibson (USA). Of course it cannot match the quality of my custom (and rightly so), it's a good quality built guitar.

Like many before me, I had my doubts about a chambered gibson. Would it even sound like a gibson? A "real" gibson isn't chambered. etc., but after changing the strings and setting up this bad boy I can say that all my thoughts about a chambered gibson has been put to shame.

Although it does sound a bit different than my 1958, it DOES sound like a gibson, and because it is chambered it has a more twangy sound, a more trebly sound if you will. This more trebly sound makes it, dare i say it, better than my 1958 in certain areas of music (rock, hardrock).

Well.. no.. it's not better, it's just a bit different.. and more choices == win.. biggrin.gif

Rock on mates.. I know I will.. \o/

edit: apparently list items doesn't work anymore?

Great guitar, I also liked the comparison between this and the custom. I guess very few people own both! smile.gif

I did something similar. I also own the 58 VOS, which may always be my favorite. But this year I got a Les Paul Traditional Standard, which I am very happy with. It is heavy, but I like that. And it does compliment the 58, quite a bit different in the sound. I think I have enough now, how many can you play? I have two others that are studios. It is nice to have a Les Paul that you are not as concerned about nicking, or getting stolen.

I am not sure why I find that guitar the most satisfying to play for the most part, but a lot of people feel that way. The 58 neck is very fat, more so than a modern 50's style neck as you know. But I have gotten used to that, and I like fat necks now. I don't find it an impediment at all, playing the stuff here at GMC.

Man did you get a deal on that one. It looks alot like my traditional, but the tuners are different. Mine is on my lap right now taking a break from Zsolt's Metallica lessons. The pick-ups on mine are 57 classics, so they probably aren;t quite as lively as the Burstbuckers. Have you found yourself just looking into the finish and not playing it. biggrin.gif

Thanks everybody..

I have now played seriously with it through my amp, and it's a lot more trebly than first anticipated.. I found that it's great for rock, hard rock with a lot of power chords, and the solos are also nice.. It's also extremely good at country believe it or not.. There are some things it isn't that good at.. while it's hard to describe, some of the music we play in the band just sounded.. bleh.. while some other sounded just plain awesome.. I was playing around with the amp settings as well, so that might have something to do with it..

I just love the 50's neck as well.. And I do believe the combination of the weight and size of the neck gives it this dark lovely gibson tone.. it's great.. I took the new guitar to rehearsals yesterday, and for some reason I just blasted away.. so perhaps there is something to the lightning fast playing on the slimmer necks?

That, or it's just the fact that I have been practicing a lot of fast stuff lately and haven't rehearsed with the band for a month..

Excellent guitar, and I bet it's a nice piece as well. Congratulations! smile.gif You cannot beat Gibson, they are awesome, bulletproof guitars, with perfect intonation and sustain. I will get a Studio one day too, must have a Gibson cool.gif
