GMC Forum _ Wiki Writers _ Keywords

Posted by: Fran Dec 8 2010, 01:56 PM

Hi everyone!

We have a new wiki project ready to see the light, one which will bring loads of new entries into our knowlege base cool.gif

In our little guitar world there are loads of terms that we use on a daily basis but are certainly a mistery for those outside or new to guitar. This little project here will try to put all these keywords into our wiki. We have gathered some of the most important ones, and have written small definitions for them.

What's there for you to do? smile.gif

1) Add new keywords to the list, along with a short description
2) Choose some of the given keywords in the list and add info, pics, explanations, examples, videos, etc. to make it a richer entry.

That's all. Here's the list and... Let's Roll!

Can articles be written by unsubscribed members?
If I find the time I could add something too. But I'm not subscribed for the moment.

The best bit is that these keywords will be highlighted wherever they occur in the site and users can find their meaning just by hovering over them,, then go to the Wiki for a fuller description!

Another crop going in:

chorus = "<a href='http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Chorus'>Chorus</a> is an electronic effect that attempts to make a single sound source sound like several sound sources playing together"
reverb = "<a href='http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Reverb'>Reverb</a> is an electronic effect tjat mimics the effect of being in various different kinds of reverberant space such as a hall or room, even though the sound source itself may be completely dead sounding"
echo = "<a href='http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Echo'>Echo</a> is an electronic effect that repeats each note or sound def into it one or more times, often with varying delays and different stereo panning"
distortion = "<a href='http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Distortion'>Distortion</a> is a much used guitar effect that changes the waveform of the guitar into a more aggresive fizzing kind of sound."
fuzz = "<a href='http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Fuzz'>Fuzz</a> is a more aggressive form of distortion in which most of the tonal qualities of the note are lost in return for a very aggressive sound"
flange = "<a href='http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Flange'>Flange</a> is a type of time delay related effect used on drums and guitar - reminiscent of someone playing through a drainpipe"
noise gate = "A <a href='http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/NoiseGate'>Noise Gate</a> is a device that attempts to cut out extraneous sound, especially useful in high gain setups. The simplest work by applying a threshold below which all sound is cut out"
sixteenth = "A <a href='http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Sixteenth'>Sixteenth</a> note is a small sub-division of a whole note. Usually, there is one whole note per bar or measure, so there would be sixteen sixteenths in one bar. Improtant to guitarists as a 16th is one of the faster shred notes"
triplet = "A <a href='http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Triplet'>Triplet</a> is a timing convention in which 3 notes are fit into the time normally reserved for two - thereforeas a result they are played a little faster and alter the timing of the piece"
sixteenth triplet = "A <a href='http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/SixteenthTriplet'>Sixteenth Triplet </a> is a triplet played in place of 2 sixteenth notes. A bar of sixteenth triplets would therefore contain 24 notes. Sixteenth triplets are about the fastest notes a shred guitarist is able to play, and being able to play them at high tempos is a mark of distinction"

Just choose one and see if the entry contains just the short description above, or if it has more content added smile.gif

You can work on any of them as long as there's something worth adding.
