Above is the link to Metallica playing their new song 'Cyanide' live in Texas. What do you think?

Posted by: superize Aug 10 2008, 11:49 PM

That was a pretty good song

Thanks for sharing

I will refrain from posting any real comments on the new Metallca album until I've heard it and held it in my hands.

However, from what I could determine from the video is that Metallica has started to play a bit more technical, which is a good thing. James seems to look younger and Lars's drumming isn't the trash can drumming from ST Anger, Which are both a good thing.

To be honest, I'm actually quite looking forward to the new album.

Some cool parts. Pretty good song.

Lars is playing great on drums. I loved the way he played on St. Anger, just not the sound of the drums as much on it.

Miss the old Hetfield Growl and bark in his voice from old days(Voice sounded best on Puppets , Justice and the Black album, for me), but I'll always give Metallica a listen with anything they do.

Posted by: Trond Vold Aug 11 2008, 12:02 AM

ohmy.gif That sounds better than i expected! Maybe the new album will actually be good smile.gif

Posted by: skennington Aug 11 2008, 12:17 AM

I thought it was good, but i'll wait to hear the whole albulm befor I comment as well. I do think Rick Rubin and Robert Trujillo will make a difference in "Death Magnetic" smile.gif

Posted by: Toni Suominen Aug 11 2008, 12:27 AM

To be honest, to me that didn't sound like anything special, but I won't make any final judgements until I have heard the whole album. Let's just hope for the best smile.gif

Posted by: Bedlam Aug 11 2008, 12:37 AM

Robert Trujillo should have stayed with Infectious Grooves... I love that band...

This was nothing special, but still better than anything on St. Anger.

Its boring, better than terrible though.

Posted by: Guitarman700 Aug 11 2008, 01:31 AM

ugh. UGH. UGH! that was Horrible in every sense of the word. how these washed up losers think they're still relevant with their crappy generic Alt-Rock is beyond me. more garbage from Craptallica. typical.

Posted by: Sondre Aug 11 2008, 02:02 AM

Coming from the guy with a Megadeth avatar! biggrin.gif

Edit: BUT! Even tho the earlier albums are the greatest ones ever (Kill 'em All to MOP), this could be [freakin] awesome!

Edited for language - Andrew

He has a right to a negative opinion.

I think it was okay...but it's never going to be as good as their older albums.

A negative opinion would be saying that it was not a good song. Calling them washed up losers is a more personal attack.

Posted by: kyldeee Aug 11 2008, 01:12 PM

Nope, I really don't like it... It's been downhill since Master of Puppets for them, and this really doesn't change anything

I find it kinda boring dry.gif

It's always hard to get an impression when hearing a song for the first time through a live recording - but to me this sounds very promising! Thanks for the link.

I agree. You can't judge from a live version. It sounded good to me though!!

I think its good. I really wanna hear the song the video plays over the live pictures though, that riff is extra groovy wink.gif

I am buddying up with Gman here, I started to lose interest in Metallica years ago.
I was not impressed with this at all and have no interest in hearing anything new from them.
Not looking to start a pissing match, just stating my opinion smile.gif

+1 I agree too.. I just want to hear it in the studio tongue.gif

And of course Guitarman.. you do have the right to a different opinion, no hard feelings here.. (and I can definitely understand someone not liking metallica anymore).

This sounded very good and promising to me too! Of course this isn't a studio recording and its pretty bad quality but I can "imagine" the song! smile.gif Can't wait for the new album to be released! smile.gif

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Aug 11 2008, 05:18 PM

Ths sound quality is very poor so I can't judge it. I just can say that I'm very anxious to listen to the new album.

dont get me wrong, i used to love metallica, but the ST anger came out, and after reload and all that other crap, well, i just pretend they broke up after the black album! wink.gif
Edit: i WILL listen to the new album, and i WILL give it a chance, but im not expecting much. sad.gif

Here's hoping you'll be blown away then. biggrin.gif

I just discovered Metallica about a year ago so I didn't much care, or I wasn't alive for all their newly released albums. So I kinda got all their stuff in a short period of time, but I love the load and reload stuff. There are some quality riffs throughout those two albums, regardless of whether people thought they sold out or not.

I can understand your feeling of disapointment. And I used to think that as well (at least, about ST Anger). But then I suddenly realized something. If metallica would have released this album under any other name it would have been awesome. Sergeant Hettfield's Motorbreath Club Band - St Anger with a sticker on it saying: "Actually we are pretty much Metallica, but this stuff is radically diffrent from what we used to do". And nobody would have complained.

Load era Metallica had a lot of great songs, but again mentioned above It shouldn't be combined with KEA through AJFA.

in both cases, somehow people have the tendency to stick the name of Metallica to something, mostly KEA through AJFA. While someone who would listen to all albums for the first time and didn't know the names on the CD's would say that all were actually pretty damn good.

All I want to say basically is that people stick too much expectations to a name or artist. And If anything deviates from that what they want it to be. Somehow it becomes a lesser product huh.gif. That is kind of strange isn't it?

If Metallica decides to record an album only using 5 tuned chickens, 12 fat penguins playing kazoo and a goldfish playing soprano tuba, all in the key of E#. Who is going to stop them? you? Will it remove the artistic creativity? I think not. I am sure that the quality will be very high, and the musicallity will be very high. In fact, In certain circles they would definately decide that that would be the greatest musical experience ever and nothing will ever come close to it. It will definately make an odd listening though, I'll grant you that.

I hope I'm still making sense after this,
J

Edited: forgot a word >.<

The funny thing about Metallica is people saying they are sell-outs. After all, they just make music they love, not Ride The thunder ...

I agree. I wasn't around for anything pre black album, though they are my favorite albums, but I love the riffing in load and a few in reload too. Good stuff. St Anger not so much.

If you join up on mission metallica you can listen to the song in its entirety,

however don't expect much I was very dissapointed, although its nearer their old sound it just sounds like a watered down version of Metallica as we know and (used to) love em.

You mean 'older' ? wink.gif

I sometimes look myself in the mirror and see a watered down version of my younger self .. huh.gif

But, I also see a more rounded and happier and altogether more potent person. laugh.gif

The same goes for the Metallica guys. smile.gif
