Task 5 : https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Surfing-With-Satriani/ Record and upload your version of this lesson by next Thursday 1st March

As I said in the Beginner Task 5 thread, we are moving on to rhythm playing now. We've had 4 weeks of alternate picking and hand synch so it's time to get riffing !!

Notice that Zsolt tuned down a whole step to D standard so you have 2 choices : You can transpose the backing tracks up a whole tone so you can play the same chord positions in standard tuning or you can transpose the chords of the lesson down a whole step. This is more difficult and would require you to play different chord shapes..

If you have trouble transposing the backing track then please let us know on here and I'm sure somebody will be willing to post the altered version here for you to download. smile.gif

Transposing is easy in Reaper.

Just right click the mp3 file and select "item properties"

from there you can find pitch adjustment.

From D to E is +2.

click apply.

You're done wink.gif

Hey Ben! Ahead of the game this week. My wife has been out and about all day so I got some stuff done. wink.gif

I haven't posted to the REC board yet but I wanted to post here first. If it's okay with you, Bensei, for the remaining time this week I would like to go back to the last task and work on those stretches some more as well as some other endurance exercises I've been working on. If there's something else you had in mind though, by all means, I'm at your disposal. biggrin.gif

Oh Maaan, that is way cool !! cool.gif

That's made me think of the sun shining down on the streets of LA or Miami or something... your rhythm playing is totally ON ! biggrin.gif

Yes, please do feel free to spend the time working on the picking arpeggios.

Extra donuts for completing your Task early, young warrior !

Kick ass cool.gif

That's an incredibly chunky tone you got there, how did you get it ?

Don't forget to hit both the A & D strings in that main riff, to get the full effect.

Nice work !

It's "Satched Van 51" tone from Guitar Rig5 and I beefed it up with Ezmix.

GR5 definitely worth of purchasing.

Sounds awesome weepee!

Definitely agree on guitar rig. I use GR3 but for what I do it was one of the best purchases ever.

Hey Ben,
I really need some advice here. I've recorded a shot on Zsolt lesson (which is excellent by the way). I'm confused. It seems the notes are here, but not the groove. And I don't have a clue on how to make this better... huh.gif
Would you have any lead on that topic ?
Thanks smile.gif

Hey, I can definitely feel the groove here, there is no problem with that, Everything is very well played and your timing is totally on ! cool.gif

There's one thing that lets it down though, you keep hitting unwanted extra strings. I think you're accidentally fretting and hitting the G string which is ruining some of your chords... apart from that, you've got this lesson in the bag wink.gif

Yes, you're totally right. I'll try to make another take paying attention to that. smile.gif
